Just out of curiosity, what is the current word from PMA central about the PVR and not signing on crises. After all that is what it is now, we are no longer dealing with just the odd one or two every month or so. It's turning into a free for all. Someone must be really concerned about all this at JHQ. They cannot be having there heads up there arses ignoring this problem. Or are they still coming up with retention statments saying that we all are weak, to see if we sign on.:pDT_Xtremez_42:

Check the RAF personel bulletin 2007 on Monday morning for some news...

It's not for public view so you'll have to wait...or phone a friend at work.

Nothing to get overly excited about though...

I pvr'd 3 months ago. I had a job offer and my trade desk told me no chance of getting out early!! Put it in anyway and hey presto got the date I wanted 6 months early waitng time should be 12 months. I am happy man now on my ressetllement etc. Not goin back to work at all. I got my date from the cheif clerk and no one not even my boss has interveiwed me to ask my reasons. Bassiclly the Officers in the airforce do not give a toss and have not got a clue about what is happening toi the airforce. 28 years and good riddance to the s***te force.

There are a few common themes across all the boards, here and pprune etc.

1. A lot of people have had enough of being screwed and have the benefit of having qualified for a pension / edp, as a result of this they are going.
2. A lot of other people are too young to get the pension / edp immediately and are waiting for the day to arrive when they can leave with the money.
3. Premature departures once qualified for a pension are not reflected in the stats, surprisingly.
4. A 5% PVR rate is the norm, as has been said elsewhwre there are minor peaks. No stats are available for withdrawal of PVRs submitted, some are withdrawn following a sudden surprise promotion or suitable posting being offered.

5. It was all better years ago - a matter of perception, I joined in the late 1970s, my SNCO when I got out of training had been in longer than I had been alive. I am now well into that situation. Those that join now will not experience what we did, as I did not experience what my previous SNCO did.

If you are considering leaving by PVR or NGR - check the terminology for terms and conditions through the admin AP, available on a good intranet terminal near you, see which is most beneficial and do it. For my situation it was NGR, 18 months of getting my life sorted then out to live long (I hope) and prosper (also hoped for).

Look after yourselves, the system won't, your management chain can't and the airships only have a target number to meet.

Sorry to appear cynical but unless there is a public out cry or everybody PVR's at once these figures will continue to be fudged to protect the image of the RAF (you know the 1940 BoB - one that says we're all OK!)

PVR & Exit Rates

PVR & Exit Rates

Maybe I am naïve, but… following the Freedom Of Information Act, if you are desperate to get the exact figures for PVR and Early Departure you can write to the PMA/ACOS or whatever their name is this week and request the data. As long as you do not ask for specific individuals details, as far as I am aware they HAVE to by law reply to your query within 30 days.
Personally, rumour control is much more entertaining!

Very well put.

It really is all a matter of perception.

As a relative newbie to the RAF (just over 5 years) I can see why lots of SAC/JT's are leaving. Upon joining I was fed with the 'travel the world', 'play sports' etc gabble. Travelling the world yes, if the Falklands is the world! Play sport, thats a big no. I had to be pulled from the RAF cup station squad (I'm the captain) because of work commitments, I cant get away for expeds (see above excuse), twice having had to be pulled from sailing the Med. I returned from the Falklands to be put on guard stright away...thanks! There's no incentive to stay in for me. Im up for promotion which Ive turned down because Im the dis-illusioned one ready to leave. Fortunately for me I didnt put all my egss into one basket and upon joining started my degree and HNC. Both these are near the end so I'll be jumping ship and saying goodbye. I had the 'can do' attitude for the time Ive been in, but as no-one looks after you Im going to look after number one. They at the top dont care, so no longer do I.

You know, those at the top should be reading this post and hanging their heads in their hands. This is an utter disgrace. This sounds like someone who has been in 15 years, not 5, and has been treated appallingly.

Mate, all I can say is the very best of luck - with your ethic, you won't need it. The air force doesn't deserve you

I echo that mate. It does not sound good at all. For folks who have been over ten years in the Air force, that statment would be the norm. Not from someone who has been in only a few years. All i say is good luck to you mate, and i hope you find something that you like doing. Airships won't be able to keeps there heads up there arses, if this kind of feeling is being felt at the bottom end of the scale.:S

Five years in, nearing the completion of a HNC & degree and expected to be going on expeds, sport etc!! I'm surprised there was time or energy to do any work! Remember that others will be having to cover for someone undertaking "personal development".::/:

That's a bit unfair - I know of several people in the mob who do virtually nothing else but sports and "personal development" - the ski "championships" and sailing immediately spring to mind. It all depends on who your mentor or boss is. And it usually means the rest of us get to do the standing in...

Plus, educational commitments usually mean most if not all of the study takes place out of work. If people are having to put up with the nause which makes up your work AND do personal study as well, then they deserve to gain their qualifications and leg it.

Virtually the same as me. Been in 5 years, completely fed up already. Definitely not doing more than 9, just treading water until I finish my degree then its back to civvy street for me.

Well the way i see it is join up do as many HNC courses and education thingies then when all completed leave RAF :pDT_Xtremez_30:

id be a brain technician now !!! so why after 18 years am i still checking peoples passes on the gate !!!

Id love to be able to get educated and learn but you cannot get time off work like other people doo in less stressfull line squadrons , sport , crikey what is that ,its demoralizing seeing day shift workers going for sports days and afternoons yet us lineys are not allowed that , we cant its impossible. Time off for education i can just see the Flt Sgt spitting flames right now.

they wonder why there is trade resentment/banter now !!!

The best saying at ISK this year came from a Medic on Guard Duty and said this " Ohhh FFS why do we have to do guard over New Year , Nimrod Line Squadron Engineers are in they should do it "

It kinda sums up all supporting sections on every base now just dont do what they doo and thats "support"

Rant over , im out of cider

oh and this job makes you drink lots but we get the job done :)

I work in a (at the moment severly undermanned) bay, and last time I got compulsary PT in of 2 hours a week must have been about June......

Add to that, that at the moment that my SNCO I/C the bay is away for 2 weeks and they have just told us we are going to be deployed in 4(ish). I've been pulling 11 and 12 hour days out of necessity. Mainly because theres things to do and theres no other f*cker to do it.

Supposedly I'm going to be working for the civvies next week with no NCO at the coal face at all. The lads that work for me are f*cked off to say the least! 1 was looking at the volunteers list asking which would get him a swift posting and the other is bumping his gums at an impressive rate. Trouble is, what can I do about that? I'm f*cked off because of the conditions I find myself in, and at the moment theres no light at the end of the tunnel...

Thats harsh mate, yes he may be looking for time off for sport and expeds but the lad may have been putting extra hours to get the time off. I always did and so did most of the guys I worked with.

As for education, I am studying for a degree, all in my own time, never in work time, as well as trade qualifications, again in my own time as I suspect most others are!
