Just sat down to watch the football as the commentator introduces the 3 Service Personnel chosen to walk on the pitch prior to the match.

Senior Aircraftsman Technician "Name."

Since when has the "Technician" part been an actual rank? I always thought it was a designation.

At least it shows he's not a "run of the mill" SAC.....slightly special you might say....:pDT_Xtremez_42:

No....

"Ranks are shown in ascending order." So a SAC "Technician" is a higher rank thank a SAC "non-technician", since when?

Don't be silly now, we all know that ranks below Cpl are all essentially equal in terms of command status, the differences exist merely to designate specialities and time/experience.

surely rank isn't there to show time in nor experience, as I said in my opening post surely it's a designation only?

SAC(T) was introduced to differentiate between fully trained technicians and those who haven't finished their training. I think this 'brainwave' probably occurred to some bright spark the day they decided to do away with the rank of JT.

Except Lance Corporal in the RAF Regiment, who is 2 i/c of the section.

Once it was easy by varying the number of prop blades on a rank badge you could tell who was a technicain and who wasn't.

I noticed that he wasnt wearing any bling, whilst the commentator was paying tribute to our brave troops who had recently come back from Afghanistan.

If he was a "vet", where was his medal? If it was in transit, he could have "borrowed" one for the evening,

They were probably going to get Wobbly or S2 but they were to busy getting ready for the next out of area, so couldn't attend!
