    Squippers on the flight line

On deployments I hung out a lot with the squippers on Jags and Tornados as they were attached to the Sqns rather than on the posted strength. The harrier sqns had them on strength and were fully integrated from day 1. They were, to a man (and woman) top folks who worked hard, played hard and...

    Best Worst det accomadation

On the subject of transit accommodation, I once stayed overnight in transit at Southwick Park Sgts Mess en route to a Uni short course that started at lunchtime the following day and my unit wouldnt pay for hotel . I arrived about midnight and picked up my key to the room in an unstaffed...

    Best Worst det accomadation

Best without a doubt was the 5 bedroomed farmhouse we rented for 2 weeks overlooking one of the lochs in Dumfries & galloway, as part of an inflatable tank deployment to support II(AC) Sqn's recce role and the rest of the Marham tornado force in a low level attack role. It had its own land and...

    Wisdom teeth.

I had 3 taken out whilst at Lossiemouth around 1997. It was performed by a visiting dental surgeon, so there were quite a few done. I do recall that the x-ray showed at least one of the three was growing 90 degrees in the wrong direction and I pretty much said to the dentist "get rid of it".

    Nicola Sturgeon to step down.

I bet that Baldy Ghoul who leads the SNP in Westminster will keep his face off TV for a little while now.

Shader aircraft shoot down Iranian drones

I hope not. The Iranian government are not a reflection of the majority of Iranian citizens, and given half a chance, they would be a very good country to do business with. If ever a country needed a Regime Change, it is that one.

    Wider Service Medal

I guess the parades these days are very much a case of the haves and have nots, with parade commanders sporting perhaps one jubilee medal whilst some of the SNCOs will have 7 or 8.

    TG1 Retention again

My daughter did a NHS degree. Uni was Ipswich, 100 miles away. In Years 2 and 3, she was placed at Peterborough City Hospital, 15 miles away, and attended Ipswich for 5 days a year. She lived at home rather than paying £6k a year for a room she would use for 5 nights. Are you saying that...

    TG1 Retention again

Cool. In the 90s, the Sqns I was on (which included both HR Consultants and Engineers and a few aircrew) deployed on ops for 2 months out of every 6.

    TG1 Retention again

Could they not consult with those actually doing the work on a daily basis instead of asking someone with perfectly manicured fingernails who hasnt spannered for years? Maybe even employ 1 x CAMO/DE&S on every flying unit to be the liaison. They dont all have to work in Bristol - we have teams...

    TG1 Retention again

Same as it would for PTI when they are posted to a PJI post, or a steward when they are posted to a flying Sqn as an air steward. Run circuits or serve a few pints = standard pay. Teach people to jump out of aircraft or look after the needs of 200+ at 40,000 Ft = more pay,

    TG1 Retention again

Not at all - but the posts above seem to support my theory that TG1 is full of technicians, not engineers, and its become an ego title, passed through time that someone who changes an item on an aircraft that was designed and built by someone else according to their work instructions is to that...

    TG1 Retention again

Aerospace engineers design, build and maintain aircrafts such as planes, spacecrafts and satellites. Their role combines aspects of both mechanical and electrical engineering. Whats your engineering degree in Ady? Do you design and build aircraft? Have you ever designed and built an aircraft...

    TG1 Retention again

And a lot of those are the ones now that you seem to think deserve huge money and retention bonuses?
