North Luffenham was whispered to me recently as a contender... Is this getting more bizarre, I thought the idea was to be near an airhead??? Or is Cottsesmore staying open?

Answers on a postcard to... :PDT_Xtremez_28:

So that means that Kirton is now complete and habitable for human use after the pongos wrecked it. Now the MOD have found a new home for the Camping Club to refurbish, sounds a logical move to me.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

Guys, these rumours are now getting to be ten a penny. According to the rumour mill we have possibility of being in various places round the country all of which are sh!t holes.

Maybe we should just wait and see what the basing study has to say, nothing good probably!

As we all know the trade has gone to Rat, who would contemplate closing down 1 Unit just to open 2 more and expect to save cash, beggars belief. there are few active Units that can take the Camping Club, what about Dishforth just a tadge closer to the A1 than most. Wittering, not a lot going on there either.

From the comments above - have any of you been to Luffenham recently - OK the airfield is full of holes - but the artillery are looking after the domestic site quite nicely!

Hey what about Brunton Airfield, whoops done that 1.

As Is aid the Trades gone to shoite and whovever decides the future of it has very little interest in it. We have a Trade specialist who just happens to be an Officer, never knew our Trade had any.

The WO in that office is the Trade Specialist - You are incorrectly naming the Wg Cdr, who happens to be the Trade Sponsor.

Has the trade gone to sh!te, or are we simply in a world where the relevance of Cold War warriors is disputed and too many people have been too slow to adjust to what the RAF is up to at the moment.

I for one am sick of hearing cries of "I didn't join up to do that!", guess what folks, that is how the world is now. If you don't like it then simply visit HR and PVR!

I didn't join up to be a fireman but I still had to be!

I find the image of you in a fireman's uniform rather disturbing!!!

NL would be a good call in my opinion IF the other units proposed to move there do indeed take up camp.

Kirton, despite the rumours, is still a shambles and a mess. Any move would be good!

Are there still Defiants of 264 and 307 (Polish) Sqns, and Spitfires of 616 Sqn at Kirton? If so, no wonder it's bad! (BoB, 09/40)

I doubt it, 264 ended their days as a Bloodhound Mk1 Sqn at sunny North Coates in 62/3, 307 got canned at Colt in 46 and 616 were at Tangmere with old tin legs in 41. What about a move back to Wattashambles, the original home of 1ACC, they could also rename it back to 144 SU as well.

For once MAINJAFAD you seem to be incorrect in your history (won't tell anyone). Cannot remember exactly (Tourettes has access to the original F540s) but it certainly was not Wattishambles.

Tourettes: Vol 1 of the F540s (should be in TACINT) has th original letter from Fighter Command about the setting up of 1 ACC. I think they did not move to Wattisham until after they returned from Rhodesia sometime during the late 60's

144SU set up home at Wattisham until it was disbanded, the Unit was resurrected after the closing of Bishops Court in 1991 at Ty Croes (near Valley)

Hope this helps...
