As we get to the end of the year, I wondered what other music obsessed Goaters highlights were?

I'll start off:

Best albums:

Arcade Fire - Neon Bible
Jimmy Eat World - Chase This Light
Macabbees - Colour It In

Best gigs;

Arcade Fire - Reading Festival
Jack Penate

Best new band: I Was A Cub Scout

Best personal moment - The Lost Weekend (my band) at Islington Academy

Worst bits:

RHCP boring me stupid also at Reading
Led Zep mania - they were rubbish then and they are rubbish now. (sorry)

......over to you.

Hmm some interesting choices there.

here's my selection

Best Albums:

Foo Fighters - Echos, Silence, Patience and Grace
Alter Bridge - Blackbird
Velvet Revolver - Libertad

Best Gigs

Iron Maiden - Brixton Academy
Foo Fighters - O2 Arena + V festival
Muse - Wembley Stadium

Best new band - Black Stone Cherry

Best personal moment - Taking my 11 year old daughter to her first ever concert (Muse at Wembley)

Worst:

RHCP at Reading, you are right they were awful and I was so looking forward to it.
V-festival - Great festival set-up, but apart from the Foos and OCS the line-up was rubbish.

P.S. Can i totally disagree with your Led Zep comment, I loved them then, still love them now and would have given my right arm (hell, both arms) to go and see them. But different tastes is what makes us music addicts I guess.

Best Albums:

Foo Fighters - Echos, Silence, Patience and Grace (only got it last week but loving)
Maroon 5 - Won't Be Soon Before Long
Daughtry - Daughtry

Best Gigs:

Evanessence @ Download
Linkin Park @ Download
Bowling For Soup @ Download
Reel Big Fish @ Download

Best New Band: Daughtry

Best personal moment: Being 10 metres from Amy Lee

Worst bits:

Being bored to death by everyone going on and on and on and on about Iron Maiden @ Download, never been into them and probably will never be. Incoming!!!

Albums:

In Rainbows - Radiohead (some pikeys might have downloaded it for free, I reckon its the best thing they've done in ages and shows up all the sh!te in the charts)
The End of the Beginning - God Is An Astronaut
We'll Live and Die in These Towns - The Enemy
Send Away the Tigers - Manic Street Preachers
Hvarf-Heim - Sigur Ros
Our Love to Admire - Interpol
A Weekend in the City - Bloc Party

Gigs:

Muse - Aberdeen ECC

Best New Band:

The Enemy (much as I hate to admit it they are good)

Best Personal Moment:

Listening to a track for the first time by The Veils (NZ band based in UK) - Vicious Traditions. Get a listen to one of the must-hear songs before you die

Worst Bits:

Having to endure the complete and utter sh!te that the UK public deem to be worthy of buying and therefore making the "artists" into millionaires and somehow taken seriously, while true talent goes unnoticed. Amy Whinehouse, Kylie, Westlife, Doherty, the Spice Skankers - I'm talking about you, you wastes of placenta...

Oh and Tony Wilson died while Kerry Katona still lives. Where is the f*cking justice?

Album of the Year: Totally agree, has to be Neon Bible - Arcade Fire (had the good fortune to catch them live at Newcastle Arena, awsome gig by a very talented bunch of musicians!)

Also enjoyed The State of Things - Reverend and the Makers, A Weekend in the City - Bloc Party and Yours Truely, Angry Mob - Kaiser Chiefs

Dissapointment of the Year: Favorite Worst Nightmare - Arctic Monkeys, never was going to be as good as the debut but not even in the same league I felt.

Surprise of the Year: Support band Clinic at the Arcade Fire gig, something weirdly alluring about them - cannot put my finger on it but made me want to get an album of theirs.

Best Albums:
Sloe Gin - Joe Bonamassa
Runnin' Wild - Airbourne
(and some I can't remember through the haze)

Best Gigs
Y&T
Led Zep (obviously)
Bullitt

Best new band
Airbourne or Bullitt

Best personal moment
Standing at the front watching Y&T sweat

Worst:
Kingdom Come's soundcheck blokes - waste of space.
