Dear goaters

Recently I was chatting to my daughter after she had had a careers brief from someone at Brize. She informed me that 'all trades' now have a fast track 24 week course that JR's can do that gets them instantly promoted to Sgt.

Now whilst I am aware the NCA do a similar length course and finish as a Sgt I have heard nothing about this and so I am thinking she has misheard what was being discussed. However, as a 16 year old she is correct and I am wrong and she is adamant that this is correct.

Now just to make sure I haven't missed some obscure new manning/promotion incentive has anyone else heard about this or can i go back and ridicule my daughter.

Many thanks

You can also do it for Air Traffic Controller.

Direct Entry SNCO is an option for Air Traffic Control and Scopies. I can only speak of my experience of the Air Traffic Control SNCO's who have come up through various systems over the years. The best thing I can say is that the results are variable.

Officers are 24 weeks trg (just trying to see her thought process for when she heard "24 weeks").

Also, as above:

SNCO ATC Controller:

It would not surprise me in the slightest when you look at some of the recent ideas that have been bestowed upon us still serving.

Certainly wouldn't have thought this would be 'all trades' - it's certainly not true for int.

I wouldn't be surprised if they started pulling this sort of stunt - because you can guarantee it wouldn't do any favours for the morale of long serving JNCOs in the trades involved (how many trades do we have that don't have JNCOs?)

A 24 week SNCO course for techies has never been mentioned here at the secret West Midlands training base in any conversation I have had, not even as a crew room rumour.

Time to start one then :fat:

The technical trades are already suffering due to inexperienced SNCOs in my opinion. A 24 week course for us would be madness.

What about those long term experienced Corporals that just don't quite make it to Sergeant, but with XX weeks of intense training / schooling would get the help that would get them through the final obstacle?

The same could be said for SAC to Cpl.

As far the Service goes the current process meets its needs, some hipo's get promoted, mostly suitable get it and then a few who shouldn't also sneak in but usually go no further.

Of course some suitables don't make it through for whatever reason but these are at the margin and the whole system just keeps rolling on, so why change it?
