I was only 3 years old but I vaguely remember my mum in tears and my dad looking quite numb obviously I didnt know at the time but Elvis Presley had just died. Fast forward a few years and I found myself playing his records yes vinyl ones! Still to this day I love his music and the man himself I really dont know of any artist that has had such a powerful impact on music and culture as Elvis did. Long live the king of rock and roll!!!!!
Elvis Presley link

Never got him as a performer, whether it was music or film.

I can understand why so many were/are captivated. But not for me. A bit cheesy.

Early on, there wasn't a white performer who could touch him. After his stint in the army, he was just a sad git who became a parody of his former self. And what a way to die...

Like Albert, can see why people were/are captivated, but not for me...

Good singer - thats about it really. Never wrote a note of the tunes he sang.

Not much love on here for the burger-munching, hip-swiveller I feel....

My eyes tend to glaze over when I hear the word Elvis. Saw possibly one of the worst impersonators ever whilst in Vegas one year. He was about 300 yrs old and just kept going uhu-hu

Didn't they start a church of Elvis some years ago where he was supposed to be the second coming of Christ ?

Are you sure it wasn't Tommy Cooper?

I'm the same age as Lisa except my mum was a massive Beatles fan so 'the pelvis' was banned in my childhood home. I can see why teenaged girls would wet their knickers over him when he was younger but by the time I came into this world he was a spent force.

That said, a mate of mine does a halfway decent impersonation and has raised bucketloads of cash for various charities over the years. Whether he wrote them or not, Elvis's songs are a lasting legacy.

What do you mean Elvis is Dead ...................... When did that happen ? ...................I heared him only the other week answering questions on the Steve Wright radio 2 show.

He was an intelegent man who knew the answer to everything, what a sad loss.

The same can be said for any song.

Hmm yes I can see it now in years to come, established artists will be releasing cover versions of the classic Barbie Girl or maybe Hit me baby one more time!!!!
