John Lennon was shot outside his home in New York 30 years ago today. One of the greatest singer song writers and one half of probably the greatest musical song writing partnerships ever. I personally love the Beatles and even if you dont you have to accept that much of the music we listen to today can trace its roots back to this era in musical history.

RIP

Rip.

personally I think he was a dope smoking drugged up hippy tw@t, about as far removed from "hero" status as is possible.

Ah come on Gem give peace a chance I mean the world can live as one can't it? Seriously he co-wrote some utterly fantastic music far better than the modern contrived cr@p of today. His songs will stand the test of time but he did nothing remotely heroic as far as I know. Unless you count being a millionaire who did drugs and who grew up in 60's Liverpool as an heroic act.

I'm with Gem here I'm afraid...I've never liked him or the beatles so to me,he's no great loss to the music world.

30 years - f**k me! I'm officially old. I'm of to put my knee brace on, spray the room with 'Sandalwood with a hint of Lime beweldirment' to get rid my 'front room' of the smell of **** and cabbage and listen to 'help' followed by erm what was the thread.....

I cried when John Lennon died...... :PDT_Xtremez_21:

Not because I loved his music or even felt he had been taken from us before his time.

I realised Radio 1 would play everything he had ever written over and over and f***ing over for the next six months, at least, just like they did when Elvis died. I liked Elvis and I got sick of hearing him 10 times a day for 6 months! :PDT_Xtremez_06:

In my personal opinion, Lennon's music after the Beatles wasn't fit to be made into ashtrays! :PDT_Xtremez_06:

So I actually agree with both of you too.

Yup, me three. I was more a fan of Harrisons music which was, I thought much better. Plus Harrison was a Monty P fan so that makes it right. :PDT_Xtremez_14:
