Well finally the lords and masters decided that they could let us in on the worst kept secret since Princess Di was shagging some ginger bloke in the Army.

TCW is now going to 4 month dets, but there will be no R&R for us, but we will be able to watch the NFU posts go home and enjoy themselves while we're stuck in theatre.

Loads of empty promises of extra opportunities for AT and stuff while we're on training phases - yeah right. The longer they give us in between cycles, the more ****ing tasks they'll take on. Roll on the new groupie being posted in so we can 'change for the better' again.

Here's a novel idea - now we are 4 field squadrons again, why not give us our badge back rather than that ****ing bambi???

Well, bringing the Wing as close to what the Army do was always on the cards, ever since they binned off Raven in favour of Cormorant.

You're already a Signals Unit, once you're used to four month tours, they'll sling in six month tours, then before you know it, you'll be run by a bunch of Army officers, treated like Army.

I used to like the Wing, then it went rapidly downhill around three years ago....

back in 1983, I was the last TCW Teleg to be detached to Ascension Island, i got no R&R for the 100 days I was there.

When I left I was so happy, I could have kissed the Pilot, but settled for the Air Load mattress!

Cormorant is just a stop gap for Falcon

This is **** news indeed, NFU personnel get R&R (for now) on a 4 or 6 monther but TCW won't? It's in JSPs ref POL. Why make you guys so different? Service complaint perhaps?

Tcw Doing 4 Months Away

Tcw Doing 4 Months Away

If TCW end up doing 4 months away i think people will end up commiting suicide!!!!

Not only is it like living in a prison when you go away and boring as ****, you have the delights of working with some right choppers!!!

This can range from many ranks and different services!!!!!! I know myself if i was on TCW i would personally before a det came up, would go and get my rape kit out the car and serve time for that then do 4 months away!!! Least they let you have R and R in some Granma's garden while doing community service and you get visitors! (NOT MENTIONING EXTRA PHONE TIME)

I think these officers that get everything catered for there needs when they deploy forget that while there being formally entertained the rest of you lot are sitting there just counting the days to get home!!!! (Unless your trying to get away from your wife)

Also they forget that the boys out on the Grounds day is alot more intresting then that of a Wing Warrior!!!!! Who can be regulary seen either being told to do a useless job for no reason or spanking his monkey in his Grot!!!!!

Did you hear what's happening to maint at all?

Don't worry yourself, my rotund princess, it's just the FC Sqn's and some ERAS types getting ballsed around. So you can go on your 4 monther and get R & R.

Just as an aside, they top brass (minus the BR!) are talking about ALL formed units not having R & R. I hope this won't stick, but finding it difficult to see how they can sort out the manning because you will effectively get very light on the man power mid tour!

What the OP failed to add, is that the 3 FC Sqn's are getting shaved off the top with a multitude of different levels of experience to creat the new 1 FC Sqn.

From what I gather, if there is a structure that is meant to be put in place, then there WILL be time for AT..... About a week a cycle I think! Yip (funking) ee!

the circle of life

the circle of life

That happened back in 2000 mate. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

and late 90's.......
there is a trend here.......

when i went away you were fairly fresh, made a difference made your mark, then came home. I watched the 4 monthers plod along with their I don't want to be here det attitude spending the time planning where/ what they were going to do for R+R. Then I would cover for them while away(easy life) and still try to do my job.
I can see the argument for 4 months, but that will be the same arguments for 6 and then why not do 12 months?

What is that argument then? From the outside looking in, it's always a lot easier!

Having seen first hand the reaction from all ranks. I, as a JNCO am fighting a losing battle when it comes to little snags like keeping the morale of my (SAC) troops up! Have you been working on the wing in KAF recently? Probably not. if you did, you would not make such a flippant comment like the one quoted.

Oh, and before the sandbags get dragged out an "in my day.... blah blah...!" statements come out of the woodwork. Don't. Todays recruit and newbies are a lot different to the hardened, not podgy, non playstation generation that we used to have. Nowadays, they are moody, knee jerk reaction, snotty little oiks who I am getting increasingly (and internally) fed up of.

4 months away. 12 months back. No doubt there will be stupid exercises up the backside (DOT anyone?) to cover and various unneccesary FP gubbins to deal with, oh and more courses that won't be used again for 10 months min....

Please enlighten us with your wisdom. Oh great and insightful one!

Things on the wing

Things on the wing

Sorry to hear about the events at TCW
I did two tours on TCW 81-83 and 84-86 and was always given time off after dets or deplyment i,e after spending 5 months down South in 82 I got 4 weeks leave buckshee!
I have no idea how things are on the Wing today but this ruling is bloody awful..who on earth pushed this though and why?

I know, let's solve the whole "length of dets" issue, and just get postings out there.

Three years on KAF's helpdesk anyone?? :PDT_Xtremez_09:

I must be one of the few who is happy about this one, yeah 4 months away is sh*t, but more time away = more time at home, plus more op allowance, result. The way things are now, we barely have time to scratch our asses before we are back out the door again.

and i'll tell ya what chumpzilla, if they stick us on more stuff like DOT, thats a bonus, i did it last year, there was decent admin, MCSU support, actual showers, and tents with artic liners. dont sound a lot, but compare that to the utter joke that is clover praxix/lightning gate/rock dove, at least a big exercise isn't run by the mongs who continually make our MR's an embarrasment.

morale will take a hit, but it's alway gonna be low, what with all the glassbacks and SAC's who burst into tears everytime they get som much as a whiff of a rubbish task. (disclaimer: i know that is the minority of SAC's, but they are there and they make want to cause death to many).

hopefully the new system will split some long standing clicks up, spread the experience more fairly and allow the possibilty of actually making plans more that 3 minutes in advance, plus the 3 week leave window pre det is a winner, having twice been sent on OPS the day after IRT at brize (based at leeming), and i quote " to save the hassle of having to travel back down to catch my flight" cheers, didn't want to see my family anyway! nobs!

Silver Glove, I was only using DOT as one of the longer exercises, so apologies on the bashing. You are right though, the rock doves etc do tend to be a misdirected bunch of nonsense just to try and get ticks in boxes! Personally, I am out the door on the next phase for my sqn (not telling you when and where cos that would almost give away my true identity! :PDT_Xtremez_21:) and i'm not fussed either way. Like you said, the benefits are the extra dough, a bit of breathing space in between dets, etc. But, and it's a big one(!), the powers that be will no doubt have plans to fill our time with all kinds of rubbish.

The 3 week sanctuary period you quoted is subject to IRT dates i am led to believe.... Waiting out on a definitive answer to that...!

P.s Which one are you on Silver Glove????!!!!! :PDT_Xtremez_30::PDT_Xtremez_42:

mr zilla, i know what you were saying, an your gonna be right too i expect, the DOT's and joint venture's will come on top of our glorious rockdoves, i hope not and pray common sense prevails.

Funnily enough, on our brief there was no mention of the sanctuary period being IRT dependant, i wont look forwar to my 3 weeks off then, they couldn't plot the course sensibly before, i doubt they will now either.

your true identity?? yes it's wise to keep that a secret on here, but the silver glove knows everyone, i know your name, i know where (ish) you live, i know where you work, i even know when your out the door next, and where to! for all you know i am sat in your downstairs toilet right now, stealing your wi-fi, in a splendid yellow balaclava, with matching mittens and socks, and i bet you check too (the toilet..not the outfit)

i'm not a stalker by the way, but i do know, mwaaa haha ha ha....ahem.

which one am i on???? the best one!! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

.......

Please enlighten us with your wisdom. Oh great and insightful one!

did you read my whole post you tube?
I tried to say that 10 weeks kept me fairly interested and keen to do the job, compared to the bored lifeless guys on a 4 month stint.

The argument as I am sure you have had shoved down your throat from those chasing promotion is continuity and less demand on AT. And an easier planning stage for you lot.

I have seen the old sweats trying to tell me how good it was in their day, but some of the tubes that arrived as i left were very close to stupid! I hope you weren't one of them especially with your resonsibility of keeping morale up. Get out your own backpassage please and get on with the job.

I didn't want to escalate to a slanging match, but where are you now? Are you there on a day to day basis trying to keep what little morale is left up? With all the new bosses coming in and making their "mark", it is getting very difficult to see the bright side! A lot of the people I was referring to are those with family commitments, and were quite satisfied with the old roulement.

Thing is, as i've already stated, Adventure Training will be about a week out of 16 months, while I bet throbbers like yourself get lots of oppurtunity to do whatever the funk you want while weeping over your 4 monther to Seeb/Dubai which comes round every 3-5 years. Sorry, but had to give a little back as evidentally you are on the true blue side, not the blue/green/desert mix (whatever colour that makes-probably purple.... eventually...!)

Just re-read this. So how can you see the argument for 4, 6 or12 months when you said that they were plodding along? Surely the 10 weeker det would keep the guys fresh and make their mark etc, like you said!

So, tell me how can you see the argument for 4 monthers when you said they just plodded along? What with no R & R entitlement, what are they going to think about? How wasted they are going to get on decompression?

I'd love to here the explanation...!

Tuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuube!
