With Engerland now having joined the other home nations in planning a week or two on the beach rather than at the Euro Championships next summer, it has been suggested that the home nations + Rep Ireland stage their own 5 nations championship. After all, there is no doubt that over the next few weeks the phones will be ringing in all of our nations' FA HQ's with calls from nations who have qualified to play them in pre-tournament friendlies.
So rather than play, what will be for us at least, meaningless friendlies against smug Germans and Eyties, why not play a 5 corner tournament of our own? At least the games will have some purpose to them and hopefully help prepare us for the pure torture that will be qualification for the next World Cup.
So what say you?

At first glance it's seems a good idea. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

But Scotland played really really well in their group games and seem to have team spirit, passion and some skill we (England) seems to be missing a bit of those qualities at the moment so no lets not play each other. I could see the jocks winning the thing and they would crow on for years and years. Those of you old enough will remember that in 1967 the Scots where the first team to beat the then World champions (England) so they apparently became world champions. A "fact" mentioned to me on many occassions.

PSBM it would be good idea if the five home nation teams were England, Isle of Man, Jersey, Guernsey and Sark we might win that one.

Not a bad idea but the way Engerland are playing at the moment we would probably comes bottom of the group.

Tb, we would have more chance if we played the Falkland Isles, Anglesey, Isles of Scilly, Gibraltar and the Vatican City but only if we could borrow Craig Gordon, Sunderland’s Scottish goalkeeper.

Sunderland's Scottish goalkeeper.

Got to admire your dedication and devotion to the cause mate you never lose the faith or miss a chance to mention your lot:PDT_Xtremez_28:.

However we are discussing International football which shocking but true is more important than club football even your club football. Back to PSBM's group if it where to happen

Winners Scotland (That hurts so much)
Runners up Rep of Ireland
3rd (Hoping) England
4th Northen Ireland (if Healy stays fit)
5th Wales (If Toshack remains as manager)

Well somebody has to promote the cause, we Mackems (NOT muckems as somebody recently said!) took an oath when we first entered the hallowed ground (the SOL or for old ones Roker Park), "Sunderland 'till I die".

By the way did you see the Mighty Keano has had a go at some of the England player's egos, see the link.

What do you mean "Pot - Kettle"?

Not only did we beat you in 67 but we took the **** thats why! Jim Baxter doing bllody keepie ups on your patch

TBH i think we should just have the home nations, the Irish season is at a slightly different time and we dont really need an extar game.
Would lve a trip to Wembley to take on England. Think we would anage a result.
Think some of the English players are truely World Class but they just cant play as a team and there is a lot of egos. A lot of gys who thin they are better than they are.
Defoe? Bent? J Cole? Not up to much, all show flashes of it but dont have it.
England lost 2 bad goals last night, even before the keepers mistake not one person shut Kranjer down, and he can pin a shot, they must have known that

Also, how can a country like England not have left mid?

Thye need to pick a team on form, there are guys in the Premiership playing better,ie Bentley

i need football next summer, 5 nations is a great idea. competitive games against each other could benefit the national sides aswell, instead of sunbathing watching everyone else playing in that euro champ thingy competition that'll be going on.

I remember the old Home Internationals, the Rous Cup,etc and I enjoyed watching them on World of Sport every summer and agree it would be good to watch. but didn't the Home Internationals get stopped because levels of crowd violence go through the roof?

Then again, if our fans won't get the opportunity to destroy the cities of Austria and Switzerland, a rampage through Glasgow, Cardiff, etc will keep their fighting skills honed for south Africa in 2010!

Ah Slim Jim Baxter, I may be English but I have to say that Jim was one of the greatest players I have ever seen. He had a left leg that only God could have made and when he did, he broke the mould. He was only at Sunderland 2 years before the demon booze finally ruined him but Oh the memories stiil shine bright.

RIP Jim, Sunderland, Rangers and Scotland fans I'm sure will never forget you.

Well, that's what 2 years at Sunderland would do to anyone lets face it :PDT_Xtremez_06:

Thats one reason I heard. The other was that the English FA decided to withdraw anyway because the level of competition was not up to scratch. And who says there's no arrogance in our national game
