Not on 5 Sqn myself, was posted there but managed to get a move almost straight away. 5 Sqn TCW are currently downstairs in the hole at High Wycombe, the current plan is to move to Leeming in August this year but that could have slipped in the 2 weeks I've not been at work. I'll PM a couple more details.

I'm on 5 Sqn, although it's the only place I've been so I couldn't say how it compares to anywhere else.

We've got a lot of new people coming in because we're so undermanned. I presume your TG11/TG4 because your id says "peanut", so you'd most likely start on the service desk which involves answering the phone to people who can't remember their passwords, locked their accounts etc. If you don't like IT, you're coming to the wrong place! Once trained up, you'd get the chance to work on shift which is 2 days, 2 nights and 4 off. Typically, you don't have to work one of the nights, and if the days fall on a weekend you'll get one of those off too. When I was a shiftee, I hardly felt like I was at work :) You don't tend to get pinged for OOA work on shift either.

Beyond the shift is the chance to work on one of the specialist teams which are based on particular areas of the system e.g. exchange, configuration management, backups etc

I really like the job. From what I've heard, we've got one of the easiest green tours. Most of us are going to Leeming, although some PICs are staying.

Let me know if there's anything more specific you wanted to know.

Just remember anything more specific about the job shouldn't be posted on this forum.

Cheers for the info guys, will try and give someone a call over the next few weeks to find out more info, finally got the official posting notice that says im going to be web maint, but as with many places its not always the post that im going to be actually doing. Ive been in the IT world for a few years, last job here at SHAPE, we run the helpdesk here and if we cant fix things remotely then we go to the customer and fix it there. Very hands on IT job, very busy and have really enjoyed it, Glad to be moving to a similar job. Not affraid of hard work, been in 20 yrs so im an old duffer.
Cheers again. see you soon!!!:PDT_Xtremez_30:
