8 Sqn shortly on the move ...

I suppose if those pesky Russians would please promise not to operate in the North, but to do just the occasional visit to the Wash, then they could be placed in the Lincolnshire flying graveyard, AKA Waste(ington)

Please explain your comment for me.
I imagine it's in reference to a number of folk who've bounced around RAF Lincolnshire most of their careers, have settled with Spouse's careers, kids schools and owning properties, and who may now be more vocal about potential moves to ISL.

Give the man a prize.

8 Squadron to nowhere land? Those cretinous trade group one aircrew wannabe Lincoln lifer Airbnb Techs are in for a cracking time learning new skills. The water is sh*t up there so just how will they make that perfect cuppa for the crew?

Not to worry, if Empress Nicola, (aka Wee Crankie) gets her wish Lossie will be shut down and all the assets returned back south of Hadrians Wall asap

8 Sqn moving back to Scotland. They were at ISK for long enough ISL is only 15 miles away

All together now
Shackletons don't bother me
Shackletons don't bother me
Clapped out contraptions with flaps on their wings
F@ck all their pistons and their piston rings
etc. etc.

The E-3D is going out of service (less than 2 years?). The RAF have crews which are current on that platform & they will more than likely move over onto the Wedgetail.

So move 8 Sqn up North, then start the conversion as the E-3D draws down.... makes perfect sense..

They were only at Kinloss for about 18 months.

Downsizer sees the issue. Speaking as an ex '8' chap here are some of the considerations that will translate into, perhaps, a shortage of people to fly on and/or fix them.

There are quite a few different flavours of 'aircrew' on board but some of them won't be an issue anymore like the airborne techs, Flight Engineers and Navs.

Fighter Controllers - Managed to escape from the bunker to a role they all aspire to. I think most of them would go to a pile of sh1t in the middle of no-where rather than back underground and losing their dets to nice places...so they'll take Lossie ok. There might be some older ones in the more senior roles that will pull the black and yellow because they have too much invested in the Lincoln area in terms of houses, schools and spouses jobs etc.

Pilots - Hours on a 737? thanks very much! Some of the older pilots, like above, may just find that this is the 'time' for them to taxi off into retirement or the airlines.

WSOp - This may be a sticking point for some. The Waddo WSOps have in some [most] cases spent a deal of time on that tunnel from Kinloss. The training system for them is already busy training guys for the P8 so if a deal of them choose to not travel up there could be a shortage.

Ground crew - In the current civilian air industry chaos most will have to suck it up and go North. Its not the right conditions to say 'feck it I'm off to work on the airlines' when most aren't flying and will take years to recover.

So having thought about it...it may have been the optimum time to do this in terms of bending peoples arms to accept the move. I bet house prices in the Moray area are rude in health right now!
