... That at a meeting yesterday, catering/mess staff (civ and mil) were explained the implications of PAYD and how it would actually affect them when it arrives. It seems that mil stewards will be available for all tasks - as per their civ counterparts. Duties will include stewarding, serving behind the bar in the All Ranks' Bar, working in Costa Coffe and - best of all - working behind the counter in the SPAR shop. Now do you feel valued?:PDT_Xtremez_25:

Waste of good worm. Try better next time.

I wish it were. It's gen and once the traffic on here picks up a bit you'll see. There were quite a few at that briefing and I got it direct from someone who was there.

hang on though

hang on though

So are you telling me serving in the SPAR is more demeaning as a job than being a steward? lol

Surely this is a step up for them and handling that cash and the responsibility may mean the high pay band!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

So stewards are the new GD's? Bloody brilliant- it shows just what a worthless 'trade' it is.

So then, where's Tony C0ck when you need him for a comment?

Working in the Spar...

I asked about this and was told that uniformed catering staff can only work in locations as authorised by the unit's OC Catering. The current incumbent of the post at my unit said today the he would never authorise his blue-suits working in the Spar shop or the all ranks' bar. Whether future incumbents here or at other units will be quite so black & white about it is another matter.

Or whether they will be told to be less black and white from above so that they can make this silly idea work. As is normal from above ..

What a splendid idea !!

Now just make sure that they all get put on the higher pay band and get promoted to substantive Cpl after the 2 week trade training course. They'll need the Authorataaaaahhh just like the PTI's.

Oh and don't forget to give them little plastic medals instead of little plastic stars to wear, dependant upon experience of course, in a McD's stylee kind of way.
