What does the A1 Ops Spt NCO actually do or should that be what are they supposed to do? These posts were introduced with a flurry of publicity within the trade but as far as I can see they are either left to their own devices or they are mis-used by their command chain.

Who do they actually work for? Is it HQ AC or the station? The A1 Ops Spt NCO at my unit appears to spend more time doing the work that the other NCOs should be doing than actually the job they were established to do in the first place.

With the next A1 Ops Spt Conference at the beginning of Apr 09 is it not time that we standardised their output? Thoughts ...

Personally I believe they should be bit part the eyes & ears of A1 Staneval taking their message to the stations and secondly responsible for the standardisation of A1 functions across the units as more & more they move to devolvement. Not got the luxury of one myself but can imagine that many Chf Clk's mis-employ them to fill the gaps left by the OOA burden; understandable but not what they were introduced for.

Are they invited to the A1 Ops Spt Conference or is this a glorified name for the Chf Clk's conference? Would make sense to me if they got them all together in a seperate forum and discussed ideas/best practices.

Shiney Scot, would be interested to know which Unit you come from (not publically of course) and whether this is a pan-RAF trend.

You've done it now Shiny, the hounds are loose!!

I just wondered if any others had the same problem. It seems to be a trend in the wonderful world we live in. You get someone who is interested in progress, everyone else seems to just leave it to them.

Our A1 Ops NCO is fully employed in that role, indeed it did not take long for us to realise how pivitol the post is. Whilst I appreciate Chf Clks may misemploy bodies to cover shortfall I believe it is a woefully short-sighted option. Politics eh?

The A1 Ops NCO at my last place was mis-employed from day 1. However it was a case of not enough staff in PSF (down to 30% manning in SACs, 50% Cpls).

I dont think there is much intentional mis-employment by CCs rather needs must.

(no FN you asked me before to name and shame and I am still not interested :PDT_Xtremez_14:)
