After Burnley got promoted I really didn't think this season could get any worse but it just did. The mighty Accrington Stanley could be wound up. After taking 44 years to get back into the league looks like all the hard work could be undone by the taxman. But we have risen from the ashes once before

This is on top of the ongoing FA investgation into dodgy betting patterns surrounding the Bury game the season before, and the managers playing budget being slashed by 25% for 2009/2010.

Oh dear TB it looks a bit dire for the mighty 'who are they' Accrington Stanley. But hopefully a solution can be found that allows the club to pay off its tax burden and continue competing.

Don't worry Tb, in 2 years time you will still be alive and kicking in League 2 where you will be getting ready to play Newcastle!

The problem is compounded by the clubs main sponsor going bust and the demands of the FA. Fraser eagle who had naming rights for the stadium and have been shirt sponsors have gone bust with £100,000 in sponsor monies not paid to Stanley. The FA have insisited that the stadium improvements, to keep up with current regs, (1000 more seats) go ahead at a cost to the club of £60,000. So thats 60K to find and 100k not coming in plus the taxman wants 300k by the 10th of June. Peanuts to prem clubs barely the weekly wages of 3 decent payers but for Stanley it's a massive bill.

Away from the fantasy world of the Portugese winker in the real world Stanley have had a stay of execution from the taxman.

The bill of £300,000 still has to be paid but is now spread over 12 months.

Well the bill still needs paying to the taxman and Stanley don't have the funds as yet. So for the first time in my life I am going to say something nice about Burnley FC. I have loathed Burnley with a passion for 40 odd years but I find myself saying thanks for the offer help you Clarets.

Nice words by the Clarets manager to boot. Me grateful to Burnley for some good works whatever next. :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Indebted to Burnley eh TB? A bit like the episode of the Simpsons where Homer has to borrow the money for a mortgage payment off Pattie and Selma :PDT_Xtremez_14:

Almost as bad a your lot getting shrek's stunt double in a straight swap for Torres and Gerrard the day after Joe Royle becomes your manager. :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Stop it or I will wake up screaming tonight after having a nightmare that Shearer is the Black Cats player/manager, Ashley is our owner and Keegan is our Director of Football.

PS: Well done Burnley and I hope the Mighty Stanley survive.

PPS: Welcome back to work, does that boost the Magnificent 7 back up to 3 again?

Well the plight of the mighty Stanley was heard at Anfield today as the collection tins rattled and a piece in the match-day programme outlined their predicament. They now only owe the taxman £307,999 :PDT_Xtremez_19:

Apparently they rasied something like £75,000 in the first week of the SOS (Save Our Stanley) campaign. Also tin the first week the crowd doubled when we played Darlington a massive crowd of 3,200 turned up around twice the usual gate but HMRC won't extend the date for full payment. The club chief exec says he does not blame HMRC as they are only doing their job. A local business has allegedly offered £250,000 but it comes with to many strings attached for the clubs liking.

Only £50,000 of the £300,000 bill to find now. Tuesday's 2-0 win over Shrewsbury didn't help to much with a crowd of only 819. Liverpool probably have more people working at the ground on match days than that. Still following the win the football power that is Bury await the Stanley in the Johnsons paint 1/4 final northern section.
