Anyone had experience of struggling to get their OOA Medal after doing an Aeromed tour.

Situation is, a collegue of mine was an Aeromed Medic and therefore did not serve 30 consecutive days OOA during his 4 month tour.

He has chased this up and it appears this has been applied for twice and has twice been rejected. Surely the powers that be are aware of the implications of an Aeromed tour and the fact that they have to return to the UK on a regular basis to escort patients.

He has also been informed that he may have to apply for it the same as Aircrew do if they have done more than 10 trips into Telic.

Is it just me or is this bloody riduculous, that the guy is having to chase his own gong and it being led a merry dance. So far he has spoke to HR, P1 and JPAC.

Anyone know who he needs to speak to?

My brother in law was an air steward at Brize and qualified for his telic gong via the "number of sorties" route. As far as I know there were no problems.

The problem being this guy was not informed to keep a record of the dates of his sorties so he is a bit screwed. He is being given the runaround by being ping ponged back and forth between Brize and Lyneham to get details of when he travelled back and forth. Does anyone have a decent contact for this or info as to where these records are kept? Replies by PM if necessary.

Cheers for your help in advance.

Might be worth having a word with the movers out in theater, they may have archived manifests with the info on.

Flying as Aeromed he should have been on the Flight Authorisation Sheets as well. They are a pain to get hold of, and as bad to look through, but it may be the only way. He would need to speak to the Sqns involved and see where they are archived. No easy way if he didn't keep a personal record.

Your friend's other option would be to get in touch with either of the departments who are involved with the organisation of aeromed and ask for his flight dates, I am pretty sure that one of them keeps a database of flights and who worked them.

Your friend could try contacting the AECC at Brize, they did populate a database which included names of escorts for each strategic AE flight, they may be able to search this via their name.
