Goaters,I'm still serving (26 yrs) and I'm being treated for a sudden loss of hearing in my left ear. I am looking for some advice/assistance in putting the claim paperwork in. I've emailed the RBL for their assistance and they've stated that I need to submit the form and if the decision is not what I want/expect, to get in touch with them then. Anyone have any experience with submitting a claim? Cheers

I got turned down for ruptured ligaments after the physio decreed it was "only a sprain" and that was on my docs. Still did 6 months of rehab though....

Going to go back to the docs and get put back on physio cos i'm walking with a gimpy limp and have limited range of movement 9 months after initial injury...

Phone up SSAFA and explain your situation. They might know a more helpful RBL contact as they really are the specialists at filling these things out and should be proactive in helping you first time around.

Deafness

Deafness

I claimed for deafness as my audiologist said the hearing graph was characteristic of gunfire damage.

As I had fired .303 rifles in the Boy Entrants in 1962/63 without ear defenders being supplied the Veterans Agency wouldn't give me a pension, but paid me £2300.

The graph goes down towards the end and then back up again.

I bought several private aids, but now have free NHS Digital supplied by Specsavers which are the best of all.

I had occasion to submit a claim via afcs and have helped /advised a couple of others who have done the same.

RBL - they used to assist from the very offset, however, they informed me that they are so busy with claims these days that although they will assist, but only at the appeal stage. The complainant needs to submit the initial claim form and should you not agree with the outcome the RBL will be there for you.

The form itself is very easy and is very basic ie service details, date time etc, docs details and wrt the injury ie "whilst playing station football I was tackled to the ground resulting in a broken ankle".

Afcs access your med records and make a payment direct to your bank via jpa.

There's also a few no win no fee solicitors who will review your circumstances and advise if you have a case (I'll send you their details) ie for a civil claim - personal injury etc.

It does appear that this is also the case for people applying for deterioration claims under the War Pension scheme. Submit the form and then wait for refusal, then appeal and maybe then, the RBL can help.
