Probably almost a forgotten band now, but about a year or so ago, The Darkness split up. In my opinion, although they were a cheezy band, the Darkness were very good at what they done. Over the last few weeks I have had the opportunity to check out the 2 bands that have materialised from the split of the Darkness, and the results I have to admit were not really that surprising.

Justin Hawkins (the screechy lead singer) has set up a new band called Hot Leg. I saw them at the Brixton Accademy a couple of weeks back supporting Alter Bridge, and I have to say that they were utter, utter rubbish. Looking like the failed competitors in an audition for a remake of Spinal Tap, this 'band' seem to be relying totally on Hawkin's name (and now frankly, very annoying vocal style) but the lack of tallent and songwriting ability is evident. The were booed throughout their set, although this may be because of who it is singing as much as how bad they were.

However....

The rest of the Darkness stuck together to form Stone Gods who I have had the good fortune to see twice in the last 3 weeks supporting Airbourne (At the Birmingham Accademy with Wobbly a few weeks back, and at The Astoria London last night).
From the opening of the first song of the set, 'Burn the witch' it is obvious where all the tallent in the Darkness was before they split lots of energy, powerful guitar riffs and some great tunes. After seeing them in Birmingham a mate of mine instantly went out and got the album. Having owned the album since it was highly reccomended in 'Classic Rock' magazine, I know he will not be dissapointed.

Knight of the Living Dead

Don't drink the water

Their album I think is one of, if not THE best album this year. Check it out!

was looking forward to seeing the stone gods in Inverness when I went to see Airbourne but they did not make it and we got this crap band called sound and furry utter trash.
I agree on the Hot Legs they are awfull.
Airbourne were awesome :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Silver spoons & broken bones is definitely on my Xmas pressie list.

I saw the Stones Gods (supporting Thunder) at one of the first gigs at Norwich UEA. Few rough edges, but they're getting better. Burn the witch is an ace track.

Justin Hawkins doesn't seem to have done anything of note since the Darkness, feckin Eurovision FFS.

If you like heavy, check out Dragnerve: http://www.dragnerve.com/

Sound and fury were also supporting at Birmingham and London, and they are pretty average. Their lead singer seems to think he is in the Beastie boys and what sort of pratt does he look in that hat?

Well put mate. I shall check them out. Saw the darkness about 5 years ago at Newcastle Uni , probably one of the worst gigs I have even been too. Hawkins was a one trick pony and although I did enjoy their first album it got very old very quicky. I shall be asking Santa for the Stone Gods this Xmas. Gutted I missed Airbourne too damn detchments *sigh*. Still I'd rather see that "I've Met Jesus" at Xmas number one rather than some X-Factor clown.

I saw Hot Leg on the telly the other day (Something like Guiness World Record Breakers, it had Ferne Cotton presenting, didn't pay attention to much else). I've honestly heard better bands in a garage, but the worst bit was....

They were playing "I believe in a thing called love".

I thought the Darkness split Justin???????

The darkness were a load of tosh in my opinion. I didn't understand what all the fuss was about. And I will probably give Hot Leg a miss too. Sorry guys, just not my cup of tea.

That's just as well TW because as I said, Hot Leg are utter crap.

Stone Gods on the other hand......

Yes you did say it.:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Just how far removed from the Darkness are Stone Gods then in terms of musical style?

Have they really made a break from Fraggle Rock to Hard Rock or is it re hashed Darkness riffs and guitar breaks?

If the YouTube links I posted work for you, check them out, otherwise it might be worth doing a youtube search or visiting their website.

I would say that they are some way removed from The Darkness, a lot heavier at times. The musical tallent was always there in the Darkness, but now they have just got far better and more suitable material to play.

The links work fine thanks, unfortunately, I have no sound on my computer as it's a little bit broken at the mo :PDT_Xtremez_21: but you weren't to know that!!!

I'll give em another whirl when the mrs brings her laptop home.

Cheers,

TW
