Hi does anyone know of any normal RAF personal (not rocks) that have attempted the All Arms Commando Course at Lympstone.
I really want to attempt the course but can't imagine been allowed to due the current financial climate and what benefit would they get from putting a techie on it!
Have read some posts on ARRSE but not surprisingly no real gen in regards to RAF doing it as it's all for pongo's.

Well, it's common knowledge that there was a Wg Cdr (OC of one of the Jaguar squadrons) who completed the course a few years ago - it was quite well publicised at the time. And a few years ago I knew of an MT driver who wore the Commando dagger on the upper sleeve of his best blue. He'd been a bootie before joining the RAF - not quite the same I know. I also once knew of a rock who used to take great delight in upsetting the SWO by wearing his properly-earnt green lid complete with RAF cap badge "just because he could".

My mate, who is a Squipper at Lossie has done it. About 2 years ago I think, so it can be done.
He is involved with Royal Marine Reserve at weekends, so it might be that's how he got on the course.

Go for it mate, and good luck. I've attempted (And failed) the 16 Air Assault (Not RAF Regt) P-Company - Fooking emotional.

I've love to have another stab at P Company, and All Arms course, but I've turned into a fat knacker after getting married. (all her fault honest!)

maybe one day.......

Not quite the AA cse, but there is a MTD at attached to II Sqn that has the blue badge of courage.

Generally there needs to be a need for you to do the course, attachment to a 3 Cdo Bde unit or 16 AA normally does it if you are looking for wings.

There's a few lads on TCW that have got All Arms courses coming up in 2011. Mind you they are going on to SF Selection (Hopefully) so that might be the reason why they have been accepted.

theres a pilot on my sqn who has done it. He said it was more about the mind rather than fitness. This is from a man who after getting to level 14 on the fat test said not bad as i havent trained for a month. usually 16 is easy!!!!! Nice bloke tho.

Jockeys have good excuse to do the course as do the lads on the TCW who are going SF, I just can't see them justifying a fat techie to do it who in all probability is never going to work with 3 commando Bde.
I want to do it for my own personal gains and to see i can do it, i'm kind of fed up when you go OOA other services looking down at me (us) just because we are RAF!

Join the Marines then.:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Quite. I think the reputation of the service is more than about how pixilated your face can get, or how many ditches one might dig and live in.

We spent a very long time building a reputation for comfortable war-making, based upon professional supremacy and the knowledge that any bloody fool can be uncomfortable.

Please don't abandon it lightly.

There was a mechanical JNCO on my Sqn who did the course a couple of years ago. With the current surplus of TG1 personnel kicking their heels, now might be as good a time as any to do that and also volunteer for a non-trade related OOA whilst you are feeling brave - a couple of my lads are out on prisoner-handling duties at the moment!

I have voluntered for FP out in Afghan unfortuantley i am in a screened post and was told to apply when this ran out.

Don't get me wrong i love been in the RAF and i don't want to be a booty otherwise i would have joined, i just want to better myself.

TCW going onto possible SF selection, oh please come on. 63 sigs and 268 sigs have all the mil aspects covered already and have done so for a good few years.

As for the all arms at CTCRM, RAF dudes dont get sent on these courses unless they are detached to a Marine unit, which does not happen very often or go SF, and even then hardly any RAF trades get attached to SF units in a proper fashion.

The RAF will not send you on the course unless its post related. Please see above.

Anyway its nine weeks of pure hell (class of '95) and never needed it since !!!

Why exactly? Anyone can go on selection.... passing it of course is a different matter. If you read his post he didn't mean the whole of TCW he meant a couple of the guys there are going on it.

i tend to agree with dahonis, unless the calibre of personel on tcw has changed significantly, i dont understand how they can go special forces, last time i was on the wing they were more special needs. it was a fair old time ago i will admit.

Whats not to understand? If someone feels they can step up and go for SF selection they are free to do so, the unit they currently serve on has no reflection on the calibre of individuals.

No one suggested that it was wing related, it was merely stated that a few people on TCW were going to give selection a go. although there are plenty there who seem to think they already are!

Thank god... someone who understands what is written!
