I know I should have checked this sooner and I really should know this stuff, but I'm in the US for a few days (staying in a hotal) with work and wondering how my allowances work out here these days. I'm guessing I'm going to need receipts for every single meal I eat, rather than it being a daily rate I get regardless of what I actually use.

Does anyone have the actual gen on this? It's been a long time since I did a trip over here.

I know I should get LOA and PIE, it's the food allowances I'm trying to work out.

If you are at work, you can get the rates through the JPA Portal - you dont even have to log in:

Start with Library on the left hand side and then select the respective links - the DS rates are all there! I think its about $63 per day.

I can't get onto a JPA I'm afraid. Is that $63 a flat rate or the maximum I am allowed?

LOA

LOA

No LOA either is there?
Not for a temp detachment? Could be wrong but seem to remember it being withdrawn with the latest "efficiencies"
So sounds like receipts only.
HAVE A NICE DAY!

Not correct dude. LOA is most definately paid....

However it has been reduced massively, its now circa £5 per day for SNCOs....

Maximum you are allowed, and you'll need receipts. The only time receipts are not required are for Air Command Exercises, when SMA is issued (at 75% of full DS). I know that SMA for an upcoming ex is in the region of $47 per day, so my quick mental maths gave be a full figure of $63.

LOA will be paid at Temp Duty Rates which is around a fiver per day.

LSA if you are away for more than 7 nights.

and thats about it!

Be wary of claiming for LOA (reduced rate). If you claim HTD or GYH(M) you will lose these for the period claimed - so you could end up with less.
Have a friendly word with your allowances clerk and see where you stand personally.

When 'Dave' and his mates proudly announced they would be increasing the OPs allowance it was done as a no-cost option therefore everyone else pays for it.
Unless you are the type that volunteers to go to Afghanistan on a regular basis, any OPs bonuses received will eventually be clawed back over the rest of your career.

Very few are not out of pocket when travelling abroad but at least it puts off those that are just in it for the money, so enjoy the experience!

Yep had a look today, think it was something to do with welfare package being available that stopped the LOA or something. ie you don't get LOA now because we give you free washing powder or free BFPO service.

Google JSP 752 and you get various versions. However the rates are as follows:

L1 - £6.69
L2 - £10.46
L3 - £14.24
L4 - £15.63
L5 - £16.83
L6 - £18.03

I've never yet met someone in the RAF who is beyond L6, hence why I stopped here!
