Much to everyone's surprise, Woy Hodgson has been confirmed by the FA as England's new manager

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/17904713

Whilst he wasn't the people's (i.e. The Sun) choice, he was probably the best choice there was, after all Redknapp is carrying a bit of baggage at the mo and after all, why would he leave Spurs for probably the most poisonous job in world football?

Good luck Mr Hodgson - I think you're going to need it!

A couple of years at it should set him up for his pension nicely. :PDT_Xtremez_14:

I think with Hodgson in charge, England will find it easy against Sweden but they might stwuggle awith Ukwaine and Fwance.

Seriously though Woy is a good manager and I think he will do well given the chance (please don't make me eat my words Woy)

why should the FA break the habit of a lifetime and employ somebody capable of doing the job?

I don't even bother switching the box on for England games any more, this pathetic choice won't exactly bring the fans in.

I'm fairly happy to be honest. He's English, vastly experienced, has worked with International Teams before. He's also a hands on Coach, not someone who stands there and let's staff get on with it.

My only hope is he has the stones to drop Terry, Ferdinand, Lampard and the rest of the old guard and put a bit of faith in youth/new blood!

Either way, he's never going to win everyone round.

I'm waiting for him to start discussing the world rankings. :PDT_Xtremez_26:

He got Switzerland to 3rd in the world rankings during his tenure with the Swiss national team. His CV is quite good with the odd blip, Blackburn and Liverpool didn't go well, but Fulham is a notable high and West Brom are on for their best finish in years. He is respected around Europe, has experience of managing national sides and appears well liked within the game. If Woy can become the Euro 2012 Winner then his misprounoucing of R's is iwelivant.

But will he discuss world w@nkings...............? :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Seriously, I'm pleased we have an English manager for the national side. I just hope that he ditches the regular cling-ons and brings some new blood in.

He'll struggle with the big egos and small talents of the national side, like he did with Liverpool.

If he's going to step up to the national side, he'll just have to step up up to the big ego's and fcuk 'em. He's the boss, not they.

Hodgson is good at getting together a group of solid workers, emphasising a team philosophy of work ethic and positional discipline, and getting them to punch above their weight. It didn't work with Liverpool because of player egos got in the way, and a bunch of them didn't buy into his tactics and started doing their own thing. At this point, the dressing room was lost. The same it will be for England.

Once they start losing a few games the 'golden generation' will start complaining about tactics, and the press will get on Hodgson's back. Cue the media belittling, 'wally with the brolly' type shenanigans, to totally undermine him and turn him into a laughing stock. Then wait for the players to come out and say 'if only we had a coach to inspire us...', 'if only training was less/more intense', 'if only WAGS were allowed/not allowed', or enter whatever excuse you wish on their behalf, and forever in the loop England are stuck.

The minute the England players and press wake up to the fact that at International level England just aren't good enough on the ball, both technically and passing wise to trouble the top teams, the better. They would have tried eccentric (Hoddle/Eileen Drewery), charismatic (Keegan), lovable rogue (Venables), the cool calm foreigners (Sven and Capello), and others including Robson, Shteeve, and lastly Woy and they'll still be no closer to winning a tournament.

With support like that he's bound to succeed. :PDT_Xtremez_02: :PDT_Xtremez_31:
