As a Liverpool supporter our reputation took a bit of a battering after the debacle that was the Champions League Final in Athens.
But last nights tribute to little Rhys Jones, an Everton fan, by the Liverpool supporters at Anfield prior to the CL qualifier was quite outstanding. For those of you who didnt see it, the sad trio of the Jones family came out to pitch-side in the Everton shirts to tumultuous applause and then respectful silence as Everton's theme tune 'Z Cars' was played over the PA system. For those who don't follow football or who think playing a tune over a PA system is no biggie, believe me THIS one was!
Quite a sad and poignant moment, particularly as I was convinced it would be spoiled by a few mindless cretins - it wasn't thank heavens.
Its a shame it takes such a tradegy to get such things to happen though.

Absolutely agree.

From a rugby player, I found this quite moving indeed. You could see the hurt felt by members of the crown in their faces, the respect to the family and memory of little Rhys was a fine tribute to the fans and the club itself. Not many other clubs would go to such lengths as this, the applause and then straight into "You'll never walk alone" was something that football should be proud of.

Well done to the Kop and Liverpool FC

A very moving tribute indeed. Praise to everyone inside Anfield. Great to see Liverpool fans forget their ''colours'' and think of poor Rhys and his family.

The fans did all of us Scousers proud last night. Once again, the City of Liverpool, red and blue, came together as one and showed the rest of the world our united city and people. I don't think there's any city in the WORLD where this would have/could have happened.

I can just imagine how pleased Rhys would be to have had Z Cars played at Anfield! You'll Never Walk Alone.

slightly Off Topic but they could have gone to more lengths with the armbands in my opinion. Masking tape FFS:PDT_Xtremez_35:

Balck armbands can be anihtmare. Don't fit, come off etc then get discarded by some so there is good reason for it to be tape.

Yeah, was really impressed by the scenes. But on nother ocassion would have been total buz for them to be striding out their with Everton shirts on.

A moving tribute!

Hope the get the ******* that did it

I agree Fergo, but the community spirit we saw is part of the same community that hasn't yet found the culprits - much like the young teenager murdered in Moss Side a few months ago (granted he was out at stupid o clock in slightly different circumstances)

Plenty of people of Granada News saying how Moss Side was an open community etc etc

I've always though Liverpool fans were some of the best in the world, their tribute to Rhys just reinforced that opinion.
