animating using flash

Help please for Mrs TB. Mrs TB needs to animate a logo using flash I haven't got a scooby where to even start. She would like the logo to either rotate (like Ming Mongs avatar) or travel across the page. Any one with an idiots guide for doing this??

Does it HAVE to be using flash?

Only reason I ask, is that most animated sigs and avatars are done using animated gif files.
