I may be going back to Cosford for FT late this year and was wondering what happens over xmas etc. if I have used all my leave entitlement before I get there, anyone know?

They give you extra leave and they even give you extra money so you can enjoy your extra leave.

In all honesty I think you know the answer; deep down you really do.

Trouble is if people are forced to hang around camp it ups the workload for the skeleton staff who have to be there...They probably wanted a nice quiet time of it getting some quality telly time in whilst stuffing their faces with all the donated free stuff...not finding gainful employment for people who've ran out of leave...

Plus if the person is on their fitters course which I imagine has a degree of difficulty and pressure is it not beneficial for them to get some time away from the camp environment...to have a break from it all to return with a clear mind?

Things may have changed a bit since I left, but doesn't the leave year run April to April? Ergo, you're only just into a new leave year, so just make sure you've enough days to see you right. Wouldn't you do the same thing at your current unit, operational requirements not withstanding?

Or are you going to use up all your leave in the hope that someone will turn a blind eye and let you go off buckshee??? :PDT_Xtremez_42:

I believe there is an option for PSF to grant leave against your next years allowance in cases like this.

I think they'd only do that for extreme cases such as compassionate cases that normally wouldn't warrant compassionate leave; I don't think it's the norm for frivolous use of leave.

Not in my experience as that would then put the individual in breach of the Working Time Law for the following year.

I'm pretty sure that as part of the Joining Instructions, the AMMs (and their Line Managers) are told to ensure they have enough leave to cover 2 weeks in the summer and 2 at Xmas. The first part I can sort of understand, but having enough leave for Christmas is basics - after all, it happens every year!!!

The days of standing folk down because they have mismanaged their leave over the year are hopefully behind us. Why should your peers be disadvantaged because they are able to manage their leave?

When one lad on a fitters course at St Athan turned up without enough leave it meant one of the permanent staff there didn't have to do Christmas guard that year. He was so cocky when he got there in the summer and then so quiet when we all drove off camp after being stood down a day early for Christmas.

You'll probably get a plaque to wear around your neck saying something like "Leave mismanaging tw@t":PDT_Xtremez_19:

What were your plans for Xmas if you weren't on your fitters course? You still would have had no leave regardless of location so you must have been facing some sort of duty over that period anyway?

A lad of my FT course in 95 used up his leave thinking he would get the time off anyway... it was a disappointing Summer for him.

You might get the odd gash day off here and there but don't take it for granted that you'll get the full monty.

thanks for all the answers, i will keep plenty of leave spare, on the other hand i was hoping to have at least some of the leave when i wanted to hmm better wake up

If you PM me with your approximate start date, I'll be able to let you know how many days leave you'll need at the start of your course.

Hope that helps.

More chance of Dale Winton taking up rugby league than the system turning a blind eye. Your plan to save some leave is a very very good one and well worth sticking to.
