Recently married and now the Wife has been made redundant so we are having a serious think about renting the house out and moving into Quarters.

Now, I am very much aware that this move would count as my first one and so at my own expense which is fair enough, coupled with the fact that I am not going anywhere at the moment so no new assignment order, so my question is......

If I was to receive an assignment order say tomorrow - for example to Lossiemouth - would this still be counted as a first move thus rendering me liable for the enormous removal costs? Or would I be better moving onto the Married Patch now to eliminate the 'first move' rule so safe guarding me for any future dickings?

Any help as always would be very much appreciated.

Your first move only comes into play when you move house for personal reasons (ie from private to MQ or vice versa).

In your case, if you choose to move from private to MQ without an Assignment Order then you will foot the bill. However, if you are posted to Lossiemouth from another unit then you will be entitled to a publicly funded move and DA regardless of which house you move from.

HTH.

I am pretty sure that if you are married, and living in a house you own, then on a posting to Lossie you are already considered to be living in a family home so would be entitled to move at public expense, Obviously this probably won't count if you voluntarily decide to move into quarters for personal reasons.

There you go, direct from a TG17 guru, sorry Mutty, was obviously typing at the same time.
