Hello all,

Just a quick one as I've been given some duff gen by some PSF types and was wondering if I could get the double-gen on it from someone here.

On AFPS75, is there such a thing as a "half-pension" leaving point*? I asked, and on separate occasions got told "Yep, 15 years!" and "No, it's worked out as a division of 22 years!" Deffo some duff gen somewhere there!

Also, when does your pension clock start if you joined up as a young-un (I did!). Is it attestation date or 18th birthday?

Lastly, is there a publication I can look in for all this bumpf?!

Cheers :PDT_Xtremez_30:

I know your pension starts as from your 18th birthday.

Everything else, not a clue!! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

On AFPS75 the clock starts ticking at age 18, you will only get an immediate pension upon leaving once you have crossed the 22 year mark. If you leave before you will get a pension at age 60/65.

Half Pension Point? Never heard of this, you earn 1/37 of you pension each year, although it aint quite like this as the early years accrue less, roughtly half way through your pension is year 19. (I think we accrue 1/60th of salary per year but I'm not deffo on that)

You only get an IP when you have done 22 years reckonable service, for the 75 scheme your reckonable service starts from 18, or the date you joined up if later, for other ranks.

If you go onto the RAFCOM website there's links to the pension booklets.

If you complete 2 years you remain a member of the pension scheme and your benefits are preserved, some until you're 60 and some until you're 65.

If you join another pension scheme then you may be able to transfer your pension to that scheme.

If you PVR before your 22 point you don't get an IP

Hope this helps.

It accrues at 1/70th per year, hence a 50% (of salary) pension after 35 years service, Off Topiccompared with MPs whose pensions accrue at 1/40th!!!

Hello all,

Please accept my aplogies on behalf of TG17. Not for giving you duff gen, but for giving you any pension advice at all.

TG17 do not deal with pensions, and all pension enquiries should be dealt with through the JPAC - You may as well ask someone in MT Control or Eng Records about your pension entitlement as someone in PSF - the information you'll get will have the same value.

I suggest if you want to know anything about your pension, then you contact the JPAC - they deal with pensions - we dont.

I see! I honestly didn't know that and would have preffered them to have told me so! Ha ha! Thanks for the info.

Thanks to everyone else for the advise as well! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

and there was me thinking psf was personnel support flight, surely if a member of the stations personnel asks for support in the form of pension information it is psf's job?

I see your point, but I'd imagine that their 'support' should have been to guide me in the direction of the right info instead of just guessing!

100% correct. If anyone comes to me or my staff looking for pensions advice, they are politely pointed in the direction of the JPAC Pensions Team - a specialist team who deal with pensions.

Briggfairy - That is the best support I can give - pointing them in the direction of the experts so they get the correct advice.

Mutty is correct and the trouble is that some clerks know a little bit about pensions (but not through any training given) as they may be either interested in it or have picked up bits of info along the way but this is dangerous as the advice they give could either be out of date or completely wrong.

So even though they think they are helping they may be actually hindering!

So as he says, PSF should say nothing other than point you in the right direction of the 'experts' :PDT_Xtremez_42:

So WTF do PSF do, your answer above is the same for anything be it leave, pay whatever. So as someone asked the question before what do you bring to the party:raf:
