Anyone know of any good/decent DWR's left out there seeing as though those nice people from Stafford have taken both the slots on West Falkland and Bosnia is all closed now....

and no i'm not due one as I only got back last year was just wondering if there anything decent out there as with 5years left am sure I will get another one before I escape...

You're a bit late. It used to be that everyone would volunteer for somewhere like Incerlik to avoid going to the Falklands. Now everyone's trying for the Falklands to avoid Iraq or Afghanistan. Nice try!!!!

Not trying to avoid anything, in fact in 16years I've done 5 DWR's (you do the Maths) and they include Al Kharj (twice) and Ali Al Salem on set-up (when it really was Sh*t) just fancied somewhere different next time thats all, and the Death Star at MPA doesn't really appeal to me

... Ali Al Salem on set-up (when it really was Sh*t) ....

Not a stacker myself, but I can confirm that AAS was truly, backwardly, disgustingly sh!t when it "Opened". As I got off the first plane to arrive there, the Kuwaitis were kicking all the locally emoployed Bangladeshis out of the blocks we were about to occupy. No decent cludgie's, food was cr@p etc etc.

Good DWR

Good DWR

An admin order came out the other day looking for any trade to go to Basrah, Kandahar and MPA on vehicle escort or something called LOCK OP to Helmand, if you fancy volunteering for that.::P:

There is still a slack handful of people in Macedonia and there will be for a while yet. I don't know if there are any stacker posts, but there is a post for a Pers Admin WO, so it must be pretty cushy. Ooh, hush my mouth! :PDT_Xtremez_42:

Any ideas where to apply for this as a friend is asking to volunteer for stuff like that. Id volunteer myself but im off to Afghanistan in september.

Only people that have never been to the Falklands moan about the place in my experience!

Oh, I don't know. There are a few rapier guys who don't have many good words to say about the Falklands. Never been myself, and I will be disappointed if I leave the RAF without ever having been. Not that I would volunteer for it, and with the number of people volunteering for FI to get out of Iraq/Afghanistan my chances are not good at the mo.

True story...

True story...

A wg cdr I know got to the end of his tour and contacted PMA to find out where he was going next. Desk officer told him he would have to go OOA, so said senior officer resigned himself to 4 months in some godforesaken sh**hole. Desky then informs him that the next available OOA slot is in Tampa, Florida! Lucky bas***d...

Seeing as though I've already done 3 tours in the Death Star I just thought somewhere different would make a change...

I found the desk really helpful in this respect;) . I put a Gen ap for any DWR other than than the FI again. I dont even need to tell you where i ended up going!:)

You lucky, lucky barsteward!!!! We got there on the second or 3rd flight in and had to doss down in fcukin arab tents. Luckily, we were told that "at least it's not raining!!". 3 hours later & we're trying to stop our kit floating out the door flap. Cue extremely pi55ed off stackers trying to find somewhere dry to shelter only to be told to "fcuk off out of our blocks, we've got to work in the morning".
This after taking nearly 24 hours to get there, & we then had to set the hanger up the next day. At least I go to spend some time in the airport hotel unloading all the incoming aircraft, which was nice....even managed to embedd a tractor into the tarmac as I hadn't taken the towing hook out before I drove onto a lowloader....still, didn't have a licence for them anyway!!:PDT_Xtremez_30:

In 18 years, the nearest I ever got was Gran Canaria on holiday....but fcuk me, I can speak Arabic, after spending the best part of 2 years in Saudi or Kuwait, starting in 1990....never got off the airport at Bahrain either....but did fcuk up Mr Broadbeans store cos he refused to get me some beer when I was on the way back from AAS once & his hard OOA det was Muharraq......the big nosed MU supporting heathen!!!!::P:

5 tours between 1985 and 2004, its 5hit! Plain and simple 5hit. I preffered Bosnia, although my 2 tours at AAS in its later stages were OK. Mind, with a name like fablon biff chit, the Falklands obviously suits you! As to OOA, Lone Ranger, come to sunny Khandahar, its great! We ahve a Gym, coffee, cinema, coffee, burger king, coffee, jinglies, coffee, pizza hut, coffee, karaoke and coffee!

Sounds like Bosnia with added sunshine. Can't go wrong!

That's cos you're a desert dodging git.......you did go to Corsica & spend the entire det watching "Twin towns".......:PDT_Xtremez_30: bloody good det that....the start of my medical discharge, but still good despite the sheeeite accommodation......

Your PM to me will be replied to with new address, phone no's etc...but you guessed correctly. I thought you were you, but wasn't too sure, now I know I'll avoid reading your posts!!!

You could just try the desk at Innsworth the station chief clerk should know the number.

well well ex-stacker, mind you it is quite obvious who you are and if my memory serves me correct you were also on holiday in Corsica, and as for desert dodging let's not go there as you know me better then that,

watched your once mighty team get stuffed last week in Cardiff, oh how the mighty have fallen

Ive been and I bloody hated it. Well, most of it. All the stupid 5am siren wakeup calls (to see if you can get up early, you need to practice!), MST or whatever it was called and more duties than ive ever done EVER, duty shadies, duty NCO, duty 12FAC etc. Rubbish. Weather is sh!t. NAAFI is sh!t. Groundhog day for 123 days.

I preferred Ali Al and Incirlik for DWRS, at least the weathers good most of the time and you could get out and about, cheap carpets and gold etc. And at least you feel, sorry, felt like you were doing something worthwhile. Id rather go to Afghanistan or Iraq next time, and have volunteered for either for me next DWR just cos its what I joined up to do rather than drink myself to death somewhere safe.
