Hi all, new here so be gentle.

I'm posted to Coningsby in June, all housing paperwork is in and we've been told that we're going to be put in SSFA.

We don't have any kids but do have pets and we know for a fact that there are houses at Coningsby, albeit 3 bedroom.

I'm just wondering if anyone had any good gen for me as to why they would put us in SSFA rather than 3 bedroom SFA? (I'm aware there are rules but really, is it cost effective?) Also, what sort of ballpark figure for monthly rent is permitted if we were to look for and suggest an SSFA to DE ourselves?

The wife is really getting on my back about this so any help/advice is most welcome.

We were put in SSFA house at Halton. No kids, one dog and one cat and they put us in a large three bedroom house. We paid the same as you would pay for a married quarter. And march out has to be to civilian standards - not the strict RAF standards!!

Some of the guys at coningsby are getting moved out of the JRs accommodation and the Mess can't house them so they are looking at SSFA. When all the allowances are added up, it's going to cost a fortune. In your position, why they can't let you have a 3 bedroom FQ is beyond me, you'd have to pay the going rate (above entitlement) but that will be far cheaper for the company than getting you into a local hiring which will undoubtedly be a 3 bedroom anyway, madness.

They wouldn't have to pay above entitlement unless they asked for the bigger house, if DE can't house them in the 2 bed they are entitled to and put them somewhere bigger because of it then DE have to take the hit. Or this was the case about a year and a half ago when I was last posted.

That is the case indeed, what I can't fathom is why DE are not offering them a 3 bed and talking about SSFA instead, barking!

My sentiments exactly. I'm guessing that due to the high amount of us vagabonds from Kinloss coming at the same time, that perhaps Me and Wifey are the unfortunate ones to miss out and that maybe the allocation of houses are indeed full. I don't know, but hopefully I can find out soon enough.

Anyone know amounts pcm that are permitted for SSFA?
