Are there any rules for applying for your LTD? I'm now in my last 4 years of my current contract, i'm still hoping to get promoted and or extended to 12 however like almost 80% of SAC's in my trade it's a waiting game. Can I change my JPA preferences from routine to LTD? If I dont get promoted or extended I would want to do my resettlement closer to home and try to take some of the stress away from the leaving process. Is LTD only an option once you have done so many years?

I seem to remember you can only select LTD on JPA if you qualify for it. Just try selecting it.

I'm sure you have to be signed on for at least 22 years for a LTD otherwise personnel could be on last tour of duty for most of their career. Hopefully, re-engagement sign ons and promotion will be back to normal in a year or so.

A LTD is in no way guaranteed anyway. You may be able to get yourself a posting the normal way or by exchange. Have a word with your career manager.

They're actually called Final Tour's of Duty now (FToD) although the JPA drop down menu still says LTD and yes, you have to be signed on for 22 years and in your last 4 years of service to apply.

I would say look it up. With the change of pension the book actually said 22yrs or 18/40 point.
However when I put mine in the drafter phoned me up and told me to take it out as I wasn't entitled. I said I was, he said i wasn't, i said I was and quoted the book and he said oh the book must be wrong.

Don't trust anyone! Not much use to you as you will be neither, but if others are reading and on the new scheme then SHOULD be able to get it in earlier>?

Yes the 05 pension scheme pays an IP at 18 but since you wont be signed on to 18 but 22 then it would still be the last 4 years or at the 18 year point to put it in as LTD or whatever this months name for it is.
