Not just one or two but 17 former Army recruit instructors.

"The group from the Army Foundation College in Harrogate are facing 40 charges, including actual bodily harm and battery. They are due to appear at Bulford Court Martial Centre on September 21 and 22. The Ministry of Defence confirmed 17 former recruit instructors will face trial".

I saw this on the fill your boots FB page yesterday and was genuinely shocked at how many thought the behaviour of the instructors was acceptable.I get that they are training a "fighting force" but surely there are better ways to go about it than chucking $hite in their faces and holding their heads underwater.I dont know, maybe I'm more pink and fluffy than I thought, but it certainly puts running round Halton with pine poles into perspective.

I wonder how many instructors who were featured in this series are included in those 17..

Abuse on this scale must have been noticed by the Officers unless they weren't doing their jobs or chose to look the other way. Are there any officers amongst the 17?

Of course there won't be.....:PDT_Xtremez_35: I'm quite sure they would have closed ranks (pun intended) to save their own careers... after all, enlisted are expendable aren't they ;)

Bet your arse they are...

don,t the army realise that if you treat recruits like sh1te that's what you will get..

Not necessarily. RAF Catterick in the 80's was brutal for Regt recruits but loads survived to the end and went on to great things. More passed by the way though.

I'd agree with this. Being nice to people is a relatively new thing, but treated these days as if no-one knew how to do it before. They simply chose not to, and accepted that the greater trainee attrition produced (in general terms) a better and more resilient end product.

And where was the oversight by the Ruperts that firstly lapsed to allow this to happen, and if they did know - why was it not stamped on immediately?

Seems due to redcap errors the whole case has now collapsed. Now the judge wants a investigation in to how the RMP managed to c0ck it up

"Sixteen instructors at the Army Foundation College, Harrogate, North Yorkshire, were accused of slapping and punching 28 recruits. A judge branded the three-year Royal Military Police (RMP) probe "seriously flawed" as he halted the first of three courts martial. There are now calls for senior RMP officers to be investigated."

The old cynic in me wonders if the "system" closed ranks to stop the process.

RMPs not impartial, no, never.

Find it all the time in disciplinaries where management try to work towards a preferred outcome, they’re never happy when they have to take back an employee they thought they’d managed to sack.

Coo,

Think there is a difference between brutal and egotistical maniacs who just do it coz they can to make themselves feel better. And before you say anything I spent time on a Regt Sqn and worked with the Army in the Early 90's.

I am aware of at least three instructors who were "removed" from the training system at Catterick during the late 70s early 80s. This isn't a problem peculiar to the Army.
