starting a thread that can't be accused of being on the Goat already, what is your favourite Hammond B10 Organ track? The B10 was that particular organ that was popular with Soul, Jazz and people like the Small Faces, Georgie Fame etc in the 60's. My particular favourite is "House of the Rising Sun" by the Animals, but it was well used by the Style Council in the 80's/90's. The sound was resurrected not many years ago for a Renualt advert using the "Organ grinders groove".

"Organ Grinders' Swing", but Jimmy Smith. That said, he didn't play the B10, but the D4 (I'll look it up on the LP sleeve). The arrangements for the Oliver Nelson Big Band were simply ACE. I love that swing/jazz / Big Band sound.

Ever listen to the B side, "Idechda Da". Bloody superb.

What type does Kieth Emerson (of ELP) play ?

That man can make the keyboard almost talk. . . . . . . .

Not entirely sure if they were Hammonds at all but 'Telstar' by the Tornados and 'What I Say' by the absolute genius Ray Charles spring to mind as organ classics.

Jimmy Smith's greatest hits is the ONLY and will remain the ONLY jazz album in my collection, the rest is pure musical wnaking to quote Jimmy the Lips

Being a fan of soul music, for me it has to be the Stax house band, Booker T & The MGs. The opening few bars of "Time is Tight" which came out of an impromptu jam, always stirs my soul and their backing of Sam & Dave, Isaac Hayes etc for me was as important as the Funk Brothers with Motown. Booker T Jones was a talented musician who played many instruments, however, while he was studying music at Uni, it's a little known fact that Isaac Hayes stood in at sessions.

Booker T Jones still is a talented musician. I have several DVD concerts with him playing. EC's Crossroads Guitar Festival for one.

Thanks GOB (is that the correct abbreviation?) for the correction. I was referring to his time with Stax and mistakenly used "was" without defining the particular era that I was referring to.

Not sure what type of Hammond organ was played, but James Taylor Quartet were always a top night out at the Jazz Cafe (Nice) in Camden in the run up to Christmas.
