Lockheed for starters....and it isn't just BAe who have workshares...

Lockheed for starters....and it isn't just BAe who have workshares...

Whilst working at Ascent / UKMFTS (Lockheed & Babcocks) I was told that Lockheed were not allowed to be a prime MoD contractor in the UK but had to be in partnership with a UK company. How true it is I don't know but it sounded plausible at the time.

Seeing as BAE are building half the thing and are the uk prime contractor I think their plans too flatten all 4 hangers and build a new super hanger are well underway.

Not from what I heard from BAe though. They want (and need?) the work desperately but I've heard depth maint may be going to the US and Italy.... That certainly was the fear of the guys I spoke too...

From what I remember F35 depth may be going to a US company based at Lakenheath. This indicates that Majors may be done by the US contractor and Minors by "local" companies. This would fall in line with US security and secrecy issues as the US don't want to share system knowledge with UK/anybody.

The only break in this so far has been the Israelis who have negotiated their own maintenance system - but at a loss of some "integrated" systems for which they will design and replace with their own systems - something BAE should also be doing, in my view.

Of course, it could also mean that defect and component changes may be the only work done at Marham.

Good old >> ITAR << raises its ugly head yet again.

How many times are we going to go through this fiasco?

I'm not quite sure what sort of ally the USA is...but its the sort that spies on us and keeps secrets about our purchased equipment from us.
I suppose the ideal situation for any conflict is one where you can turn off the oppositions armed forces by neutralising their software.

The American supply hub for F35 will be Lakenheath hence we are sticking it at Marhell (amongst other economic reasons)and not the other end of the country. Wittering would have been a better base as it has all the Harrier legacy short runways and a chuffing big ramp in the middle of the airfield. BAE will ensure they continue to run the joint just like they are running BAE Coningsby.

I was under the impression that the chuffing big ramp was not fit for purpose and has never been used? Well other than for an Ellie Goulding video shoot but thats by the by...

No, they didnt want to build it as they could use the one down at Yeovilton but it was cheaper to build it than cancel the contract! it got used by the OCU every course.
