Hendrix
Cream
Deep Purple - Blackmore/Glover/Gillan/Lord/Paice @70-73 version (In Rock, Machinehead, Fireball) rather than same line-up during 80's (Perfect Strangers)
Rainbow - Early version with Ronnie James Dio & Cozy Powell

I was the bass player in the support band for that tour !

A week off work (free!) lots of free food and beer, plus getting to hang with The Stranglers. How cool is that?
I still have an album full of photos. plus JJ Burnel sorted me out with a nice deal on a new bass amp!

They never played "Peached" with Paul as the singer because it was Hugh's song and he never felt he could do it justice.

That explains it then. Would the support band have been The Short Straw? If memory serves me right, the was also a comedian called Lee Trevore or something like that who had been on Channel 4 and popped in a series called Sketches or The Sketch Show a couple of years ago. There was also a girls dance troop.

Sir Jimmy Shand

Sir Jimmy Shand

Jimmy Shand's Scottish Country Dance band (Sir Jimmy sadly died Dec 23 2000). Although his spirit lives on in the performances by his son and his dance band in Letham village hall near Auchtermuchty most Saturday nights.
As an aside Sir Jimmy was prevented from joining the RAF during the war because of a 'digestive disorder', our loss.

If I remember rightly, the The was added to Short Straw after a comment by the lead singer of the Stranglers.

I can't imagine you are still going. How long did you last after The Stranglers gig. I actually thought you were pretty good.

I was mixing the comedien with Lee Hurst.

Is Jim Tavare the comedian with Bassy? Have been trying to remember his name on and off for years!!
