Baseline Personnel Security Standard - What is this? Is it "lesser" to my SC? Or is it just different?

My company landed a new contract with a government department and a BPSS form has landed on my desk despite me (and my PM) both having SC on file. To be honest I don't want to do the employment history paperwork because it is the last day before a 4-day weekend.

I think the rank goes; BPSS < SC < DV, is this correct or is this another Whitehall hoop to jump through?

Not sure if this will help but the DWP has this paragraph in it's security framework booklet:

Para 1.6: Where the contract of employment of an individual member of staff transfers from one organisation to another under the terms of the TUPE Regulations the receiving organisation must satisfy itself that the Standard has been met. To help do this, it may request from the supplying organisation copies of the HMG Baseline Personnel Security Standard Verification Record (Annex A) and also any associated documentation where this has been retained. For those members of staff where this information is not available, the receiving organisation will be required to undertake the checking and verification process itself.

Reading that, it appears that all it is, is mearly a way of gauging what each employee has with regards to their security clearence. I could be wrong as I am employing a wee bit of modern sense to the above quote.

I also have the BPSS clearance, but it was automatically done when I started this job, along with the transference of my SC.
The only time I've had to fill out any security forms was for NPPV3

Thanks to both.

TBH I think this would all get cleared up if my sales manager would get off his lazy backside, lift the phone and say "I have 2 guys on SC, do you want us to fill the form out or do you just want a copy of their tickets". But he has not done this so I am wondering if my SC "is better" than this BPSS (they also want a Disclosure check on basic criminality, we are doing an intranet so no child contact).

Based on my previous behavour I will either give in and do it while muttering or see how long I can get away with looking surprised when someone mentions it.:PDT_Xtremez_30:

EDIT: Ah, according to the indisputable Wikipedia BPSS used to be Basic Check. That clears things up in my mind a little.

Don't you have a security controller that deals with the transfer of SC for new employees and the renewal of old SC's?

Because if you do then it is their job to do this not yours. Because if your company has a Gov contract they should have someone in overall control of security issues ( a bit like comcen ) who will look after any and all aspects of this. TBH it sounds like someone is swinging the lead and getting others to do their work.

We are a small IT consultancy, I honestly have no idea what we will be doing for them and my name is in the frame because I come with a free SC. The sales guy is ex navy so should know this as well!!!!!
