Has anyone here gone down this route successfully?

what trade were you beforehand and what previous qualifications did you have?

what exactly is the process?

OASC then Foundation Degree the IOT then Engineer officer training?

Thanks.

I'm currently looking at this... yes that is the way things will run. Could take about 3 years before you pass out as a BEngO. But FYI, the branch is not open until April at the earliest, and even then no guarantees.

Couple of my mates went for it.
1 should be either just completing his EOFT or be on a sqn by now, another is on IOT and 2 others are currently a month into the course at Cosford.

Process is exactly the same as if you were a civvy- apply via AFCO (via OC PSF), interviews and then off to OASC. You won't be on a special selection just for FEngO, you'll be in with the whole spectrum of applicants.

Word of caution...

One of our JNCOs has just gone down this route only to be told he is no longer required at the final hurdle due to number reductions. Another is nearing the completion of his diploma course at Cosford and still may not be given a slot!

Sounds similar to what my Chief was telling me when he went through the OASC.

He passed with flying colours only to be told no as the manpower was being drawn down to 42,000?

Also, don't you have to reach Squadron Leader fairly sharpish or you risk being dropped early on?

You need to see what commission you get offered - PC 8 or 16 years. If you only get the 8 you have to try damn hard to get picked up quickly and as per usual - its better to be lucky than good!
