Hi guys,

Just registered and, beside intro, this is my first real thread so excuse me if it has already been raised.

My lad is in basic at the moment before going to Cosford into ICT Specialist. Thing is he is hearing rumours of being held at Halton for up to 3 months before joining a course. I'd rather he got the bad news up front, so - whats the gen?

Not sure what is happening at Haltons end, but at Cosford there is a short holding period of three weeks at the moment due to the shear numbers of recruits. They are gainfully employed though with a robust training programme to keep them occupied.

Thanks for that MSA - looks as though the boy got his 3 weeks and 3 months mixed up. Such is the rumour network. I will let him know.

No need to worry, it's normal and nothing new.

When I passed out of Swinderby, (where they used to do recruit training) I ended up doing six weeks of guard duty, whilst the backflighted lads caught up ( Illness and injury etc)

When I arrived at Halton, ( Where they used to do most of the aircraft engineering training before it took over Swinderbys role) All of those on the engineering course arrived and we had to wait for another few weeks for the course to start. We ended up working in the local community, painting schools and community centres amongst other things.

It was a good laugh, those of us on the course got to know who we would be training with better and we were able to have a few weeks of chill out time before the classroom phase of training hit us.

We made it what it was and had a FANTASTIC time. This was in 1991.

I would imagine that things haven't changed much.

Hope this puts your mind at ease.

Time Between RTS and Cosford

Time Between RTS and Cosford

There is a bottle neck at the moment between RTS and TG1 training. At the moment there is about a 12 week hold. TG4 go straight to Cosford.

After finishing RTS TG1 trainees will hold with Force Development Flight. There they will undertake a programme that includes a project, a battlefield tour, museum and station visits and a flight in a light aircraft. The plan will see the trainees moving to Cosford about 3 weeks prior to their course starting to ensure that all pre-course preparations have been completed.

Exact start dates at trade schools will be issued AFTER CPT.

Off Topic but what are all the different trade groups about? i keep reading about them but don't understand the difference

Atm with courses there a short delay as we are at peak with the amount we have in the school and currently there are 3 courses here that have yet to start week 1 of training

Thanks For Responses

Thanks for the feedback on this one. For anybody else with a similar enquiry a bus load went up to Cosford on Wednesday. Looks like there will be a holding period for them all with some starting in December and the rest, including my lad, in January. So it looks likely that a holding period of 8-12 weeks is standard at the moment.

Thanks again for the feed back.

Cheers pa.

Yeah guys, I passed out of RTS on 20th Oct and went straight to Cosford the next day. From there i've been told that my course is starting on 20th Jan.

Just what i heard from one of the techie recruits; I think theirs a bottle neck because a course passes out of No1RS every three weeks whereas a course passes out of RTS Halton every two.

The next course to start with any slots free is the 20th Jan, currently we only have 6 people. All male :PDT_Xtremez_21:

not sure about AMM's but for ICT Geeks were basically put on a holding flight, they have various things for us to do - i spent two weeks in CEMF, helping the techies out with anything they needed help with (basically playing pool for two weeks)and i've just completed two weeks arms drill for the birmingham tattoo which was fun.
