Just wondered as me and the wife where chatting about getting out of where we are and going some different. Was planning on chatting to my sgt about it and getting him to talk to manning on my behalf as I didn't think sacs can contact the desk, though it had to be sgt or above but I'm On leave at the mo, so was just trying to get some info about it before I get back.

You can alter your JPA choices with Outer Hebrides I think in one of the boxes and this will flag you to the desk on a trawl.

It's a normal posting so no reason why it shouldn't be unaccompanied. Wasn't in the past and can see no difference now. I would also check JSP 752 for allowances as I think you may be entitled to extra travel warrants.

Best way is to phone the RRH direct probably and get some gen from there.

It is available as an accompanied tour. Also if you did come up here as a singlee and you have a Privately Maintained Property (PMP) on the mainland you will receive 24 return Over the Water warrants per year (ferry to Oban/Uig or Flight to Glasgow/Inverness) and a monthly mileage based allowance depending on the distance from whichever Airport/Port you choose to your PMP. I'm up here at the minute so give me a call if you want any more information.Mac.

Ahhhh, the 'Oooter Hebrides'. It sounds as if you've got the right mindset to have an absolute ball up there. We did 2 years at RAF Stornoway, and Mrs 'Fuse howled for 6 months when we left. This time of the year, June/July, it doesn't really get dark, although in Dec/Jan, it doesn't really get light. Develop a Hebridean walk, leaning into or against the wind, and you'll be alright.

Just thought i'd give people an update as to how i got on with trying to get a posting up there. Essentially the general concensus from everybody here was why on earth do you want to go up there, but they asked the question anyway. Essentally they threw a couple of hurdles at me, firstly they (Manning) where concerned about the avaliablity of suitable sfa up there for my family (i have 4 kids) and i would need a 4001 before i could even be considered for a posting up there, which would have to be at the expense of my current unit, which aren't willing to let me go do it due to manning issues.Looks like i will have to find another way of getting a 4001 and a posting up there.Hillbilly
