For me = Oasis!

Some absolute anthems by Noel. Liam is a tw*t though!!

MODS - do you want to move this to the Music forum??

For me - agree - Oasis have made a lot of good tracks - but the best British band has to be THUNDER......off to see them in December!! Cant wait!!
Mind you - for SB's benefit - Whitesnake have to come close!!:PDT_Xtremez_14:

Never liked oasis when i was a lad, but i do likem now. liam always ruined'em for me.

My favourite at the minute has to be MAXIMO PARK.

For me it has to be The Mission. Maybe not the most prolific of bands in chart sales, but still going strong after over 20 years. Closely followed by New Order.

Spot on KITH Whitesnake are/were awesome. Thunder are worthy pretenders to the crown.

But I am getting to like Stereophonics more and more ! :PDT_Xtremez_30:

Closely followed by New Order.

Are they still going? I would've put Pink Floyd, based on the fact they are still one of the biggest grossing bands ever, but they're hardly band of the moment are they?

I'd agree with Muse if this is biggest band TODAY. I reckon they're like Radiohead on speed

Saw them live last year, absolutely awsome!

Agree with Muse as the band of the moment, Maximo Park are also up there. Both slow burners not getting instant success.

The Maximo Park album has been on my stereo for ages....its very good indeed.

I suppose the definition of "best band" is very subjective. For sheer pulling power of audience, then Muse and the Arctic Monkeys have to have some claim on the crown.

Oasis has had their time, they don't really cut it anymore (dreadful songwriting) Radiohead really need to win a few old fans back with a proper song-based album like The Bends. I have not really enjoyed their last 3 efforts at all.

I guess if you're a metal-head, emo kid, Ska freak, Nu-Rave...it's all highly subjective.

I did have to chuckle at the nomination of Thunder though....:PDT_Xtremez_42:

Well its all down to personal choice - so feel free!!

A great live show from what everyone has told me, what Ive heard, and all the reviews Ive read - not that I am excited one bit about going to see them live in December after 18yrs of waiting to see them!!!:PDT_Xtremez_31:

After all - if we want a great live show, the Robbie Williams takes some beating as a showman these days, and I dont think anyone can deny he can work a crowd.

However - as said - all down to personal taste. As it is British bands, there are many that are mixed nationality so can not be included, which is a shame really.

Personally, I would have loved to have included the Gossip and the likes of Lacuna Coil, but as it says British bands it has limited my choice somewhat!!!::P:

I'd like to work him into a pulp, I hate the cnut ::/: :PDT_Xtremez_25: :PDT_Xtremez_32:

Not saying I like him or not RB - just that are we looking at who peoples favourite bands/performers are, or are we looking at what constitutes the greatest British band??

As far as performers go - Paul Weller & Jools Holland are excellent.

But as I said - it is personal taste, so we are going to get a lot of varying suggestions here, and I would hate anyone to feel that they would be intimidated by their choice.

Everyone is different - I mean, some 7yr old school girl could think Westlife were the best!! See what I mean?

Its not about being trendy, its about personal taste - and as such, I think the reasons for picking a certain band or performer should be given.

I also do not think anyone should be cajoled for their choice - horses for courses and all that.

Music is a very personal thing, and something different to everyone.

I'm not trying to have a go, I'm just saying I've love to put a magazine of 30 rounds through him. Single, well aimed shots only.

I'm not sure you can call him a band though, as he uses session performers. That's always annoyed me somewhat actually, although a single performer gets all the credit they'd be nothing without the musicians, unless they were a 1 man band!! At least Hendrix called his band the Jimi Hendrix Experience!!

Mrs W are the automatice heart some relative of yours? im sure wobbly mentioned them before and i had a quick listen. they do sound promising.

I too have an intense hatred of the fat dancer from Take That.

Zero songwriting ability (thank you Mr Chambers) and he believes entertaining consists of constantly gurning and thrusting the mike at the audience (it'll never pick up at that range anyway you cnut!)

Music for people who know nothing about music.

(see also "Capt" James Blunt)

Yes the drummer is my nephew he has been in a few bands but this one is by far the best.
They have been compared to muse and radiohead by local music journalist.
Just trying to spread the word for him so go and have a listen and see what you think.

As KITH has stated, 'BEST' is totally subjective, and I don't think there would ever bee an agreement on the subject.

I'm sure that i there was a national poll, KITH's choice (not having a dig here Kat!) of Thunder would not even make the top 100, but as they are her favourite band, then in her eyes they are the best. Having seen them numerous times, they would be very high on my list.

Also, a lot of choices are based on current fads. Maximo Park are very highly rated, but where will they be 5 or 6 albums down the line?

As for my choice for the best british band of the moment, it would be a very close run thing betweenMuse and Iron Maiden. Both bands have proved themselves over time, both contain great musicians, and they have both definately proved this year that they are awesome live bands.

As for the Automatic Heart, they are a very good sounding band, who I hope will go far.
