What do you think was the best decade for great music?? For me it is the 80's. Still listen to it lots even now. Can't beat classic sounds of bands like The Jam and Depeche Mode....................

Seventies. All the classic great bands were at their peaks, Queen, Sabbath, Zeppelin, Floyd and Rush. You had Glam rock, punk rock, soul, a rebirth of heavy metal with the likes of Priest, Maiden and Saxon.

Radio 1 still played music, not dance sh1te

But best of all........ No fcuking wanka gangsta rapping a$$hole's

70's for me.

Too many to name, but older Dire Straits, Rolling Stones (when they were good), Pink Floyd at their best, Bowie, Iggy Pop, early Simple Minds, Queen. I could go on all day.

I'm too young to have been into music in a big way in the 70's really. I didn't really any of the mainstream 80's pop, the 90's was an alcoholic blur and I hate most of the sh!te that's on the radio now. Based on that, I can't really comment on what I think was the best decade for music, but as I'm into rock, all I'll say is I'll agree with SB and Yossarian and say that I wish I was able to appreciate the bands the Rock bands that I like now when they were in their heyday.

The late 70's definately - Clash, Ramones, Blondie, Talking Heads, Stranglers,

I have to admit that right now we're in a real golden age of top music (Kate Nash and James Blunt excluded of course)

Got to be the 70's. Teenager, going to gigs, leaving the house on a Friday and back on Sunday, not a care in the world, putting my parents through hell, now my son is doing it to me.

The 60’s for me, Beatles, Stones, Kinks, Cream, Tom Jones, Dave-Dee-Beaky-Mick & Tich, Animals, Amen Corner, Beachboys, Byrds, Donovan, Dylan, Equals, Fleetwood Mac, Jimi Hendrix, Herman’s Hermits, Hollies, Billy J Kramer, Led Zeppelin, Lindisfarne, Manfred Mann, Moody Blues, Searchers and who could ever forget Freddie and the Dreamers. The list is endless but classic.

Must confess to liking the 70’s as well, early 80's weren't bad but you can stick your 90’s and this decades tuneless pap where the sun don’t shine.

70's to the mid to late 80's best music but would have to plump for the 80's if I had to pick one decade

Difficult choice but probably just the 80's, for the reasons already mentioned by others, and Marillion burst onto the scene.
