Bobby Robson to get a lifetime achievement award

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
It is so well deserved, he is one of the true gentlemen of the game.
As an Ipswich fan, he is a hero of mine, and a legend at the club.

I have to agree with the above comments.

And looking at the some of the past recipients of the award it looks like they finally got it right this year!!

I think his record stands comparison with other British managers - especially given his willingness to manage/coach abroad. He cut the mustard with a number of teams with both at home and abroad, and is a much respected coach. A richly deserved award to a true gentleman.

As a Newcastle supporter I can echo all the above comments - Sir Bob is an absolute hero among the Toon Army. The way he was treated by that fat sh!t Freddy Shepherd and those c*nts the Halls was nothing short of appalling. Believe me, that was the final straw for the vast majority of Mags. We'd much rather have seen him moved upstairs after his stint as manager than the ignominy of sacking. The real b@stards got theirs in the end, though.

All the best Sir Bobby, the Toon salutes you

I would like to echo all the sentiments above the man is a legend to all at Portman Road and the Toon Army in the Geordie Nation, he has a statue at the road opposite Sir Alf Ramsay. Two Giants of football management, the way the press treated him as England boss was a disgrace but he always maintained his dignity, and oversaw the best period of sustained success in Ipswich history, although now the game has changed so much we will never experience such times again. Thanks Sir Bobby:PDT_Xtremez_19:

Good old Bobby and 1978 eh MingMong ? :PDT_Xtremez_28:

Don't forget 1981 when he led Ipswich to UEFA cup glory during a 9 year period when Ipswich were playing in Europe every (i think) year. Quite an achievement for a small Suffolk team.

As theladf said, fantastic days that we will probably never see again.

It was also Sir Bobby who introduced Mourinho to football management when he was his translator in Portugal. His autobiography is well worth a read.

I just watched him receiving his award and reminded me what a credit he is to the north east as a whole, not just NUFC (I'm a Sunderland fan). A thoroughly deserved award.

The word "Icon" is often used for people who do not deserve it (Rooney, Terry, etc) but it is a word that he has rightly earned. Even though I am a Sunderland fan, I have to say that Bobby Robson deserves all the praise he has been given. It is just a shame that he was so poorly treated by his "beloved" Newcastle when they shamefully hounded him out of the manager's job.

Erm, you can mean that to describe messrs Shepherd and Hall. The fans gave him their full support...

Typical of the man's humility that he spent most of his speech talking about everyone who had played for him, or worked with him. As I said earlier, he is a true gent who definitely deserved his award last night.

Well deserved.

As another Tractor Boy, I fully concur with Ming Mongs words!

A true Legend at Portman Road!!! :PDT_Xtremez_28:

I'm not the biggest footie fan in the world but I must admit this honour couldn't have gone to a more deserving bloke.

Thank god the BBC actually picked someone worthy of the award.

They got it right twice, Joe Calzaghe won a richly deserved award as well !

Sorry MingMong, I forgot about 1981 :PDT_Xtremez_42:
Bobby Robson was a REAL gentleman and so were a fair few of the guys who played for him over the years.

Was a great move by the BBC. And a really moving speech.
A true Footbal Great. What he did for England and Barcalona was truely immense. His success with Ipswich and what some of those guys have gone on to do is unbelievebale. A true gent and great ambassadoe for the game.

Off Topic Linkear is a plonker! The guy was clearly struggling and he tried to hand him the bloody trophy to carry. At least Sir Alex had a bit of sense and stepped in abd took it
