BOCS......whats the point?

any other e-goaters experienced the BOCS planning system yet?
Is it a pile of shtie or is it just me?
Sqn planning seems to have gone back 10 years overnight.........

BOCS is NOT helping us at all.

It's doubled our workload. Now having to use Excel to do what STARS used to.

It's over an complicated heap of pigs dung!

But, we'll get used to it, like we do every time stuff changes.

Having just read the PPRUNE lBOCS link on this thread. I get increasingly hacked off with the people in this job who take every opportunity to slag off other peoples trades, branches and attempts to get jobs done. Especially when that they have little or no understanding of the difficulties involved. If you cannot be constructive or helpful then they should keep their ignorant views to themselves or just make a contribution to saving money by just leaveing get a pi$$ poor job where they can bleat on about better times.

What or who are you refering to? Us for slagging of Bocs, Pprune for slagging off Ops Officers or chelsea for always diving?

In the main people attacking Ops. Not just Ops Officers but assistants and managers. The specific comment was on the PPRUNE thread saying that Flt Ops is a branch of failures and half wits.

I will chuck in the BOCs knockers as well to a slightly lesser extent as well. It just seems that people are attacking a system before people get used to it or give it a prolonged try.

Having read the thread on Prune - it seems to me that they were having a go at Ops Officers. It has happened on here many a time.

If you are an Ops Officer then you need to get a thicker skin and laugh it off.

Question is, why have BOCS and an excel spreadsheet when you can have a perfectly goodpiece of kit called STARS? Why the change? Has it reduced the aircrew workload? Has it increased the Opsie workload? Has it increased the Ops Officer workload? STARS was good, STARS works well, why change things if it aint fixed

Its not just attacks on Ops Officers but also the constant snipes (I do me snipe and not banter) eg Ops v ATC. J v K, Officers V Airmen. RAF v Army etc.

I am neither pro nor against BOCS. But my understanding is that it is an attempt at getting a system in place that will intigrate not only the differing elements at Lye but also scoup up Bzn and DTMA.

PS While STARS may serve the individuals information requirements does it serve the wider service need.

This thread is about BOCs. If you want to vent your spleen do it in Fight Club. We haven't had a really good Ops Officer baiting thread in a while, you're just stacking up the fuel next to the fire. If you're feeling all unloved and want one, fine, we can start one just for you.

The Gimp is back in his new home "up north".

While serving at a super secret transport base somewhere in wiltshire, I became involves with trialing BOCS with the FOMZ and others from all aspects of flight/mission planning, we all found the system to be a retrograde step, with little of the functions that the existing systems had, (IATS, STARS).

There is still no link between SITA and BOCS so many of the planned automated links for sending delay, departure and sorting flow control messages have not been realised.

I agree that one system for all involved in the planning process, is ideal, unfortunatly this is not it!

When you have to change your working practices to fit round the computer system, instead of the system doing what it was requred to do, alarm bells start ringing.

I have said it before and will say it again BOCS= Big Over Complicated System

I don't know anyone who is positive about BOCS.
The work of Sqn Rects Controller has gone back 10 years. Excell spreadhseets, laminated calendars and endless phonecalls/faxes to see whats actually going on.
I've even rung a pilot to find out what fuel level he wanted on his next route!!
When Brizenet recently crashed again it made my life so much easier and I realised how much extra work BOCS generated.
Bring back STARS.
