Boeing $6.8bn better off

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Because USN, UK and Oz are buying more stuff...(this is of no surprise of course)

Boeing has secured a $2.2 billion contract covering 17 P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft destined for the US Navy, the Royal Australian Air Force, and the Royal Air Force.

The deal includes options for 32 additional aircraft, and money for long-lead parts for future orders, says Boeing. Overall, the entire contract could be worth $6.8 billion if all options are exercised.

And they will be on time and as advertised...But why can they do it and not BAE Systems?

Quite simple, the MOD (RAF) have bought aircraft of a certain specification and that is what they will get, if they want changes Boeing will tell them that those changes will be talked about after completion of the order.

As the old saying goes "The MOD (RAF) want a dog but will go to BAe to buy a cat and try and modify it into a dog and that will cost more and take longer than buying a dog in the first place".

Going to Boeing is going to the dog breeder.

I think had someone at BAE realised that using modern design techniques on a 1940s airframe wasn't going to work a whole lot of time and money could have been saved....

Maybe because the MoD keep changing their minds about what it IS and what they want it to DO ?

One project I worked on with Boeing was held up for months because the MoD and HM Treasury couldn't establish whether the funding was £bazillion or $bazillion.
