Hey guys, I hope this is in the right place, I was wondering what is OK in terms of boots. The reason I ask is I am looking to join the regiment soon and they have recommended I bring my own boots. Ideally I want something that I can wear after training as well. So what is OK in terms of boots.

Also any suggestions on which boots to get would be awesome as I want to have them nicely broken in. Cheers guys :)

?

You are issued boots when you get kitted on joining. You are not allowed to wear non issue boots during basic, and I would be surprised if they let you wear them at all during gunner training either.

You could get a pair of standard issue boots from a surplus store if you really wanted to get them broken in early.

Who advised you to buy, and then bring your own boots?

I think they may have meant just for my PROC but again it would be nice to get some boots worn in before the proper training course. What are the standard issue? Actually more to the point are the ones I will be issued as bad as they have been made out to me as?

If you pass the basic gunner fitness test and so are eligible to join them then you will be issued with your boots to break in before the course starts as far as I am led to understand.

For boots to wear for the test itself you want something that comes up the ankle to help protect it, go to a surplus shop and they should have the kind of thing in there.

Goober, I can't confirm if you will be able to wear your own boots through training as I simply don't know. In answer to your original question though I brought a pair of Lowa Combat GTX Boots about 6 years ago after the issue ones tore my feet to shreds on an exercise and I've never looked back. They are expensive initially but they are sturdy and durable and once worn in feel like slippers.

Hope this helps

The was a bad batch of boots issued a couple years ago.Sadly I got a pair & on my annual camp in July,my pair fell to bits, the soles just disintigrated on the first day.Thankfully,I had a spare pair!
