So who's been to the porn capital of Europe?

Any tips on where to go, etc?

One question I do need answering - what are the plug sockets they use over there?

Thanks!

I was there for a conference a couple of years ago, cracking place with dozens of cheap decent restaurants. did get accosted every 5 mins to go into the strip joints, was warned off most of them by a couple of hungarian friends. cheaper to get a hooker to visit your hotel room than drink in the club (allegedly!)

The lads :)

The Mrs would want to see the sights. I want to see the inside of the pubs!

I've heard horror stories about the mafia frogmarching you to the cashpoint and emptying your account - urban myth? I've been to Krakow and never heard of that.

How many forints can you spend in a weekend :)

I went the the trouble and strife and got back late last night. We were on the lash at night and I must admit it was a bit bizzare. It was feckin empty, the whole city.

If your going with the lads I noticed a strip joint on Vici Street which is on the Pest side and that was open until the early hours of the morning. There was another one not far up Andrassy Street. Both streets are big tourist areas and are on all the free maps you can pick up. The maps advertise 'other' services too.

The bars were ok, nothing special and not as cheap as expected. You could easily get through a couple of hundred quid if you wanted. I think thats about 60000 florin. Guiness is feckin expensive and if you are on a budget stick to the local stuff. The bars didn't stay open that late though, I think you have to hit the clubs.

The locals were friendly, Didn't see any shady looking mafia types hanging around. Foods good and reasonably cheap ( for a capital city) and with a bit of exploring I'm sure you can find the 'darker' side to Budapest.

I take it you don't want to know about the tourist attractions?

Let me know how you get on.

Well, we'll probably look round the city in the day time and hit the bars in the evening. So what do you recommend that's worth seeing?

Quite fancy this!

What plug socket adaptor will I need?

Thanks!

That seems alright. If you are into history go to the 'House of Terror' on Andrassy Street. All about the occupation in WW2 and the follow up Soviet years. The Castle district is good for loafing around in the day. A bit of culture and a few decent bars/restaurants. Have a wander to 'Heroes Square' if you can, plenty of bars on the way.

We took a normal two-pin adapter for the sockets but it didn't fit in the wall socket. Our hotel had a converter built into a desk. TBH I didn't take that much notice of that because it was for her hair straightners and when she started moaning about it I just switched off. Can't help you on that one.

Went on a rugby tour here some years ago had a great time, didn't have any trouble, booze was very cheap and loads of young good looking girls. Plenty of strip joints if thats what you want.

Be careful with 2 pin adapters, there are "Southern Europe" and Northern Europe" types, both are 2 pin, but both are slightly different widths. As vagabond found out, if you have the wrong one it won't fit.

Go to boots, they do a multi adaptor set for about £6 and it includes both.

Don't forget to check your appliance works on the local voltage too though, Kernow's link is a good place to check. If it's a different voltage you can fry a laptop quite quickly.
(EDIT: Just checked, they're on 220V so that'll be ok).
