Sorry Gents, I know it's a long shot but I am on my way tomorrow morning to buy a Focus ST170, any advice on what problems to look for would be greatly recieved.

Bit late now............Just Google Ford Focus Faults, of Ford Focus ST170 faults.

Rattling exhaust heatshields are common on them. steel ty-wraps are a cheap and easy fix... A stiff gearshift is common, but not a major issue, new gearbox oil or a new linkage sorts it. Throttle cables can be sticky when cold, often due to poor routing. I think ford dealers are aware of this, and can re-route the cable to sort it. Otherwise, look for the same things as on any other car.




P.S. Dont expect it to be as quick as a clio 1*2 or a civic type-r, its heavier han both and has no more power than the clio.
