Can someone try to Explain the pay scale

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
Sorry if there is a thread on this but I've had a look and couldn't find any. Basically I don't understand about the "levels" in the pay scale, how is it decided what level you should be at? Any input much appreciated.

Simple really, the RAF decide if your trade is in the higher or lower band, then you join up and start at level one then move to level 2 after a year. On promotion you will move across to the level closest with a minimum of 2% increase.

So every year you go up up an increment?

Yes until you reach the maximum for your rank.

You can also jump a level twice in your career if you submit a qualification that is laid down. These are different for each rank and trade.

Yeh but

Yeh but

So every year you go up to the next level?

As long as you have a satisfactory annual appraisal (called a SJAR -S for serviceperson definately not soldier) and there being a level to move up to.

You can also jump a level if you have/take an appropriate qualification for your trade/service.

You do not increase 2% each year you simply move up to the next level. This only changes when you get promoted, thats where the 2% rule kicks in.

There is also a annual rise in april (or should be) for everybody regardless of level and rank.

Ahh right, was just trying to determine what pay band each trade is in.
Thanks for the replies, been very helpful. :)

Also do you start moving up the pay levels after trade training?

Enjoy the cash mate.

Yes there is, hopefully a mod will come along and close this thread before some Shiney bashing takes place.
