Captain sacked from new aircraft carrier

  • Following weeks of work, the E-GOAT team are delighted to present to you a new look to the forums with plenty of new features. Take a look around and see what you think!
A minor offence at best.. I think there are some behind the scenes Navy politics going on here.

Can you imagine a station C.O. dropping off his car at MT then walking home.

Must have put someone's nose out of joint to get snitched for this, then again he should have known better, the higher you get more people want you to fall, especially if he's just fizzed someone.

Isnt this theft?

No doubt the vehicle would have been "fueled using MOD sources", therefore theft of fuel etc.

Lets not over-react about this - he's only been posted out of his role, he's not been 'sacked' in the traditional sense.

I you told me he'd been dishonourably discharged then yes, I'd say he'd probably he'd been treated harshly. However, it states in the story that he

"could not properly discipline his sailors after breaking the rules himself"

Sound's perfectly reasonable if you ask me. He was stupid enough to not know the rules, when he's supposed to be the one who signs off on them. Anyone below him using an MT car would know they couldn't use it for anything personal, why the hell would he think his MT car was any different??? Keeping him as the CO would have been a massive double standards issue.

Accepting the piece about not being able to discipline sailors, then hes only useful for a desk job with no subordinates.

Apart from the fact that he's quite a high rank and so by default, not particularly useful for anything other than as an administrative figurehead anyway...

I'm betting his pension won't be affected. FOMz may well be right about internal Navy politics at play here.

He has been reassigned rather than fired, while this action progresses. There's no reason why his pension should be touched.

The last three units I was at used to send MT round to collect the cars from the CO & Execs' MQs on a Friday evening and return them on Monday morning. My Sqn Cdr on 1(F) lived off base and his MT Corsa was collected from the Sqn car park. They were MT vehicles first and foremost and would be used for MT duties when not with the Execs.

If the Galaxy was for the exclusive use of this RN Officer, then he should have been paying tax on it.

Obviously he didn't read the RN's M/T Orders when he picked the 'ships car' up. Serves him right, one rule for some and the rest can get shafted.

I reckon when on leave and given half the chance, he'd have probably used his ship for a weeks cruising on the Norfolk Broads.....

With regards to the so-called "misappropriation of MT" SNCO's were probably the worst - especially when there was some sort of do (or even just twofers). The off base ones who were associated with GRF, OPS or some other 24/7 filght who had the usual array or permanent section vehicles would normally set out a pick-up routine from the local towns and villages. Assuming, of course, that the Cpl i/c the shift was willing to accept a few beer chits and/or perhaps the odd extra point or two on their annual assessments for their trouble. Funny, I got well p!ssed but never got my third...

Naval Commanding Officers have a great deal of independence and power and occasionally some abuse does occur - a few years back an engineering Captain was 'disciplined' for having his brand new CO's staff car repainted purple under LPO arrangements because purple is the colour of the engineering trade in the RN.

Seems he had plenty of warnings about this and refused to change his behaviour, his wifey was doing the school runs, appears he was starting to get senior officer arroganitism. Let’s hope the tax man doesn’t want to know more.

Looks to have quite a few defenders who dont appear to understand how petty military rules and laws are (because they need to be).

The way those hierarchy powers that be are giving this poor 'Kapitan' hell about abuse of MT - he may has well have gone the whole hog and siphoned fuel from 'Das Boot' and filled the school run buggy tank.......(I wonder if the ship's gas turbine and the buggy diesel?).....Just a thought....... ;-)
