Are there any recommendations on car breakdown cover I should take? I'm with ADAC (ADACPlus policy) from when I lived in Germany last year. I now live in France and will need to renew or get new cover in the next month. Do I stay with ADAC or seek different cover? I have a 9 year old Opel Astra to get cover for. Any recommendations would be welcomed!

If you still go to Europe at all I'd stick with ADAC.

I'm UK based, have one or two europe holidays each year and have ADAC - miles cheaper than the equivalent cover from any of the big UK names.

Thanks FT. Good advice.

I've now found out that you can join or remain registered with ADAC from anywhere in Europe btw. You can't join (or change addresses) on-line because their web-site only recognises German addresses, but ADAC have an advisory note on their site apologising for this, and say to phone their offices in Germany at the number they give, and you can join over the phone by credit card. ADACPlus appears to be much cheaper than the UK competitors if you intend to travel outside of the UK also. Apparently ADAC is very popular with UK caravanners who stray out of Blighty!

The other big benefit of ADAC is for those who go to the Nurburgring. I believe it's still the only recovery company that will recover your vehicle from the Nordschliefe. If you're with anyone else you get the 'Ring organisers to tow you off the circuit (at a cost of E150) then get your own people to pick you up. Not only do ADAC tow you off the circuit, but if the organisers get to you first and tow you, then ADAC refund the fee.

And there's your year's membership saved in one go.

Oh, and ADAC have helicopters. Which is much cooler than an AA van.
