Pretty random question - really not sure where else to post this though.

I've noticed that when I put my auggie info in for car insurance quotes I end up looking at a premium increase of about £100.

:0

Is this normal?! Is there a firm that won't take the **** like this that someone could point out to me.

Should be simples etc...

Why mention it? Its not your primary employment.

Could be due to your Auggie Sqn's location or the fact you mentioned Airfield on the application?

In my experience, steer clear of Military friendly Insurers - not all are cheap, just Military friendly to get the business.

.........unless you are claiming H2D to get there at weekends, then it becomes more than SDP usage, or even commuting.

Just a bit concerned - if I have an accident on base my insurance would be invalid if I've not mentioned it...

I've had a lot of accidents over the years (NOT my fault - no chick driver jokes please!)

Perhaps you're right and I shouldn't mention it.

Maybe they think you are asking for "on Airfield" insurance - that would be expensive. Imaging colliding with an aircraft and the bill that would produce!

Generally, unless you have to go round the ring road/taxiway - and you'll get an airfield driving permit for that - you probably won't go anywhere near Aircraft Manoevering Areas.

Try asking the Insurers what the £100 extra is for - probably a misunderstanding and not related to you being an Auggie, more likely where you'll be driving.

Good point. I shall remove all mention of it. Thanks!

Maybe bat eyelashes if it ever becomes an issue. I'm sure that will work...

The post code may also have a baring on the differing cost. Some camps are insurance hot spots due to having a high proportion of young lads in hot hatches. They can have more smashes than the national average.

H2D? Sorry!

If you are claiming Home to Duty allowance to get to the squadron at weekends, then you are not using your car for social, domestic or pleasure - or even commuting if this is not your normal place of employment.

What you might do is omit to mention your secondary occupation (which is perfectly legal if you have disclosed your primary occupation) yet still insure yourself for Business Use, which is a very few quid more than SDP.....

IIRC, from a civvie old bill point of view, military bases are private property and do not come under the Road Traffic Act.

Great!

Thanks for the tips all - haven't had to give any base details so I'll just omit to mention the second job.
