I've done the obligatory welcome thread in new members forum, and was advised to post here with my current thoughts and problems.
As I stated in my first post I've been in 8 years and was promoted last year.
However before being promoted 18 months back I attended OASC with regards to becoming NCA, I was not succesful and intended to reapply somtime early this year.
I enjoy my current trade, I just don't find it brings me the diversity or challenges I require to fulfil myself, hense a career change within the RAF.
Before I took my promotion I found myself getting stuck in the rut and just ticking over, my promotion changed this for a little while, whilst I completed my promotion courses, however I now feel I'm back where I was and slowly getting stuck in that rut again.
What's the problem I hear you ask?
What can I do about it? Here are my thoughts, please correct me if you feel I'm incorrect.
NCA - My ultimate pursuit. Branch shut until Jan 2011, plus I feel myself needing that change now, and how long do I wait until I say enogh is enough.
Logs Commission - Branch shut until Aug 2010 - when open very small numbers will be recruited, as the branch has massive surpluses from past recruitment drives. Besides I'll be OOA from Sept 2010.
RTS - Something I'd like to do, give back to the RAF and instill the ethics and morals to the future of the RAF. However, can I be released from trade? and can I take a commission or NCA part way through an instructors tour.
Over the past few years I've always stated to people to go and do it, never wait, do it whilst you can. I now feel that so much is restricting me doing this myself.
Is re-trading really tough at the moment?
What other options do I have, are there any unknow not well publised paths available?
Thanks for reading this thread, I look forward to your replies, they could well save my career.
